2/2 but also I think to fully transform into their natural beast form and keep their sense of self, they have to find a way to accept their new form and embrace the change. If they resist it, they can get stuck in the "in-between" phase, and those are the were-creatures that go feral.

1/2 thank you! I imagined that they can turn back and forth between the shapes, but how far they can transform develops with age. It's something kid were-creatures don't have control of at first but can learn with practice. It just happens on instinct when they're little.
