Image description: "I WANT YOU" hand-drawn pencils, digital inking and coloring by Ronnie Dukes. This image is inspired by the Army recruitment image of Uncle Sam for the World War featuring the text I Want YOU with Uncle Sam pointing directly at the viewer. This image is of an African American / Black woman with a large brown afro hairstyle wearing a top hat like Uncle Sam and pointing directly at the viewer. Her top hat is blue with a red band above the brim depicting the star of the Juneteenth flag and steampunk goggles. Pinned to the front of the hat is an updated version of a patriot’s medal from the American Revolution depicting a silhouette of the original Lady Liberty holding a lantern. She wears a purple leather jacket with the sleeves torn off exposing her muscular arms. Her right hand is tipping her hat and the left is pointing at the viewer. Her jacket is adorned with current day buttons / badges depicting revolutionary sentiments like: “The revolution will not be A.I.” and “All power to the people.” The right shoulder of her jacket has spikes inspired by Spider Punk and Prince’s Purple Rain jacket. In her earlobes she has golden gauges and, on her neck, she has a large silk bow tie inspired by Uncle Sam and a white t-shirt.

Updated some work I did for DUKES comics! Go check them out if you haven't seen their work before.
The original had the car zoom in and the people inside animated, but never felt finished to me. So when I had some free time, I added reflections, speed lines, and animated the background elements.
I'm grateful to 71-year-old Tonio, a military veteran and Cholo veterano, for giving me the opportunity to interview him for my ebook, Cholx Counterstory. This animation illustrates some of his experiences.
