Staircase returns on France's Dune du Pilat The staircase to the top of Europe's tallest sand dune - located in the south-west France département of Gironde - is making its grand return with the opening of the summer tourism season.

I certainly wouldn’t have guessed that Europe’s highest sand dune is in the south west of France!

This magnificent bronze cuirass is Carthaginian though was very likely made in Italy. Once thought to date to Hannibal’s time, it’s now considered early C3rd BC. The stern goddess at the bottom is Minerva & wears a triple-crested helmet & a necklace of acorns.
