As far as I understood, the problem isn't that handles are open and you can set up whatever, but that the domain-related handles are used as a verification criterium. So there's this fight about whose handle is more legitimate. Which also misleads users. Some names are just very common, too...

I am not setting up the Kubernetes clusters but read books on them to understand what's up with my pods and to better communicate with the IT staff. And, yes, that's also something I could not predict when I did my undergraduate studies in early modern history.

Are there any #Kubernetes users out here who can point me to resources on how to push commits from a #pod to a #Github repository? I suppose this also depends on the individual Kubernetes set-up, which is managed by my institute. But advice, experiences and links are very much appreciated!

Interesting discussion about archival triage, (digital) storage costs, and the pros & cons of mass digitisation. One issue that should also be mentioned: (Digital) historians usually don't get much funding for their own technology efforts, which creates great dependence on archival services.
