Not only it's been 12 years since Windows XP ended support in 2014... it's also been 10 years since Google Chrome version 49 released in 2016, the last version to support both Windows XP and Windows Vista.

Web browsing the modern web with Chrome 49 is unusable.

Time flies... 😳

You may have seen apps built with Electron or Microsoft Edge WebView2.
But... have you seen an app that's just entirely based off the Microsoft Edge Chromium web browser?
That's some crazy work lol.

Date and time flyout in Windows 8.1, it shows a reminder about the upcoming Daylight Saving Time at the bottom.

Instead of Microsoft changing up the start menu in Windows 11 via recent update, they should've changed the date and time flyout back to this.

The Daylight Saving Time reminder is still useful in 2026.

A change to the release notes for KB5070311, dated January 20, 2026:

"Update: These features, originally documented for the December 2025 non‑security update (KB5070311), have been removed from documentation. They are planned for a future release.

[Widgets] You can choose a default dashboard in Widget Board settings. When live weather is showing, the Widget Board opens the first dashboard in your navigation bar instead of the most recently used one, making the experience consistent. To set your default dashboard, open the full-page Widgets Settings by selecting Settings in the navigation bar, then move your preferred dashboard to the top.

[Widgets] Dashboard icons in the Widget navigation bar now show numbers that correspond to the number of alerts from that dashboard. Navigation bar badges clear automatically when you leave a dashboard, making it easy to track what’s new. "

Challenge: Ship a monthly feature drop WITHOUT having to disable features during RP testing or *after* releasing to stable because they should have never been near stable in the first place.

The last UpdatePack 7 / 2008 R2 from Simplix is out.

It includes the last update (KB5073695) released for Windows Server 2008 R2 via Premium Assurance which also installs under Windows 7 unofficially.

Goodbye Windows 7 (and Windows Server 2008/R2), thank you for your service 🫡

Windows Server 2008 and Server 2008 R2 (unofficially includes Windows Vista and 7) has fully reached end of support as its Grandfathered Premium Assurance finally comes to an end, no more security updates will be released. 🪦

Windows Server 2012 and Server 2012 R2 is next... 💀

An ad at the top of YouTube algorithm making a claim about the poor state of the viewer's QR code scanner, with a visibly fake update and skip button - both would send the viewer to a page for unnecessary/suspicious software.

There was a time about 20 years ago where lying, annoying and sometimes dangerous ads like this were only seen much on seedy third-party sites & random blogs, instead of being featured at the top of YouTube app with priority as common practice. The intolerance for this sort of manipulation has gone.

A modern Chromium web browser fork that works under Windows XP, Vista, 7, and 8.x named "Chromium for windows 7", don't let the name fool you, it works under Windows XP and Vista without mods.
Unlike the other Chromium forks, this is mostly stock Chromium.

When signing into a Microsoft Account in Windows 11 (and its Windows Server counterpart, Windows Server 2025), the confirmation dialog still mentions Cortana, despite being discontinued since two years ago. 🙃

Windows 11 search box for "defender" showing this new Microsoft Defender app instead of Windows Security, the app I actually want to open.

and because this is named "Microsoft Defender" it now shows up in search results above ya know, the Windows Security app where you go to configure Microsoft Defender.

they even use the same icon for maximum confusion potential
