In the WA Leg, it takes just 12 seconds to kill a bill thatβs been moving through the process for weeks.
This is a heartbreaking failure in the WA LEG.
It would have made it easier for those harmed by negligent drivers to seek a remedy. It passed the House just HOURS after Lili Moreno was killed by a driver in Capitol Hill.
Too often, our laws protect dangerous drivers more than the people they kill.

The Land Use Committee just passed my Roots to Roofs bill 4-1!
If passed by the Full Council on 9/23 the pilot will grant density bonusβs to get more community-led affordable housing built through Seattle.
A big thank you to the stakeholders and community organizations who got us this far. π
By a 4-1 vote, the Seattle Council's land use committee just approved @alexis4seattle.bsky.social's Roots to Roofs bonus pilot program, which retools the Connected Communities program that was rejected by the same committee in 2024.
CM Rivera cast the no vote.

The only time a parking mandate has any effect is when a developer is forced to build more parking than they need.
The Council just voted 8-0 to pass my officeβs bill (CB 121009) to streamline the subdivision approval process!Β
This bill is a simple yet straightforward effort to promote good governance which will shave off critical time to build more housing.
We're talking about many months saved per project!
Today, the Seattle Land Use Committee voted 4-0 to pass my officeβs bill (CB 121009) to streamline the subdivision approval process!
This meaningful reform will cut months of delays for housing projects our city urgently needs.
The bill now moves to the full council for final consideration.

Tomorrow afternoon Councilmember Hollingsworth and I will be restoring βHot Rat Summerβ in Cal Anderson Park. This mosaic was wrongfully painted over and we are going to fix it.
NEW: @alexis4seattle.bsky.social is putting forward a bold density bonus program for community orgs and nonprofits, rebooting Tammy Morales's Connected Communities pilot with even more density. This time, it looks poised to pass.

Former D5 candidate Nilu Jenks says she's planning to put her name in the running to replace Cathy Moore on the Seattle City Council, after Moore announced today she'll be resigning her seat in early July.
I will keep holding the line. Iβm not a member of this committee, but I was asking CP to be recognized so I could ask the body for someone to make the motion to extend public comment. Everyone who turned out today should have been heard. Iβm still on the dias and chambers are open so come by!
The biggest threat to Seattleβs tree canopy (according to the Cityβs own study) is the construction of single family homes. Middle housing is conducive to our climate & housing goals. Like so many anti-housing arguments, this too is a red herring.
The vote on the historic landmarking bill in the Washington House is UNANIMOUS.
