Which is odd because I should be excited to see Sigourney Weaver joining the galaxy. I should like that Zeb is doing more than just hanging around in a bar and chatting with Teva. Foregone conclusions shouldn't bother me because I grew up with the prequel trilogy.

The Mandalorian and Grogu is looking... Okay, I guess. It will be The Film of All Time for a 9-year old kid somewhere, and that's great. That's what Star Wars should be. But it's not getting me excited so far.

Still, it can't do worse than Legend of Chun-Li. If I wanted Batman Begins I'd just watch Batman Begins.

I really appreciate that they're staying faithful to the source material while not being afraid to get silly with it.
The classic SF movie got silly with it and Raul Julia was a force of nature in it, but it strayed from the game. Then Assassin's Fist got too close to the lore and forgot to be fun.

Anyway, I watched a few trailers this evening while I was doomscrolling on the worse website.
Street Fighter looks like a lot of fun. I couldn't help find it funny how they used What's Up by 4 Non Blondes and the He-Man trailer didn't, but at least they got the guy with floppy blond hair to sing it.

Fast forward to April 2026 and a certain movie puts Lylat Wars back in the zeitgeist, and I see footage of the N64 game with "back off."
What.
How can this be? It was always the lewd phrase! Am I from a timeline where Nintendo got dirty jokes past the radar and now I'm in the puritan timeline?

So there's a 3DS remake later with rerecorded voice acting and Falco quite clearly backs off. Because fun isn't allowed in 2011, the attitude era is over, and pearl clutchers are all over the internet ready to pounce on puerile fun. Fine. Not unheard of for remakes to change the script a bit.

So imagine finding a cropped screenshot of said line with the letter J in its rightful place. You wouldn't give it a second thought. Falco said a phrase which would be innocuous to a child but hilarious to a 14 year old filling his Wii up with the N64 games he missed in his infancy.

Now, the audio in the game is crusty because it's a Nintendo 64 game and because the characters are communicating over space radio. Someone paying more attention to the game on screen might only half hear the line. Somebody keen on playing better would save Falco and stop hearing the line.

In Lylat Wars (or Star Fox 64 if you're that way inclined), failing to rescue Falco in the first level will have him deliver the line, "Oh man, I'm going to have to back off!"

For years - YEARS - I could have sworn that instead he said a phrase which rhymed with "back off."

Had what might be my first Mandela Effect moment tonight, only to have the far less interesting realisation that my memory of my teenage years may have been polluted by memes and my immaturity.

In Super Mario 64 DS, giant characters normally cannot crawl. However, reading a sign pounded halfway into the ground forces the character into a crawling pose. When giant, this results in the character's giant posterior completely blocking the entire screen.
