I went to Sun Studio last weekend while in Memphis, and I was surprised to learn that the reason it became the tourist attraction it is now is because U2 paid to have everything renovated just to record there. The sessions drums Larry donated are still in use! Wrote two books and didn’t know!

Finished reading “Strength to Love” by Martin Luther King, Jr. Originally published in 1963, a timeless spiritual exploration that offers much insight into the parallel issues of today.

My first time being asked to comment on something new U2 does, & for the Chilean daily newspaper @latercera.com! Talked about the two surprise EPs they recently released, & what it might mean for their future. My deepest thanks to Felipe Retamal for the opportunity!

The Little Nell and early Tim Curry singles from that disc are super awesome, especially "Biting My Nails."

I screened this back in October for a film fest event, and it was fun to get everyone's reaction who didn't know there was a Rocky Horror "sequel." I ended up getting the "Songs from the Vault" disc because the soundtrack doesn't have the single version of the title track.

“Wake in the fire now” by Jarret dapier and AJ Dungo

Finished reading “Wake Now in the Fire” by Jarret Dapier and AJ Dungo. A harbinger of the broader fight against censorship in the years to come, especially against marginalized voices, it is a story of how every voice matters, no matter how young.

As a note, I’m a fan who tends to steer away from the more common entries like “Hot Rats.”

“You Are What You Is” is a lot of fun, and contains what I argue to be one of his masterpieces which is the title track. Does have his cruelest song on the album, but less avant-garde overall.

My introduction was “Joe’s Garage,” a less common entry point but it really resonated with me. There’s a handful of albums that music critics point to as essential, but it’s a small sample of an otherwise massive catalogue.

Thanks! I’m gonna read up on this a bit because fandoms (or anti-fandoms in this case) can be an interesting window. I was a teenager at this time but missed out on all this because internet was such a luxury.

Though I’ve written two books about them, it was surprising for me to learn from the guide they paid for the studio’s renovation which is how it became such a tourist attraction.

Totally bizarre. Had no idea about any of this. How common are musician hate sites?

I think it’s all going to end up in something anyway, it’s inevitable. And I wouldn’t stand to really make anything from doing it. I don’t wanna be the one to decide to feed the beast.

… on behalf the Czechoslovakia (1990). 👍😈 FZ had many loyal fans in the former communist Czechoslovakia. We referred to him as “The Master.” During interrogations, the communist secret police claimed they would “beat that Zappa out of our heads.”

Dorůžka’s book *A Drawer Full of Zappa* could only have been published as non-commercial educational material for members of the Young Music Section. During the crackdown on alternative culture in the mid-1980s, were disbanded. Leaders of the Jazz Section, were sentenced to several years in prison.
