I really needed to see this thing I just saw on Tumblr:
Write it badly or it'll never be written
Write it badly or it'll never be written
Write it badly or it'll never be written
Write it badly or it'll never be written
Write it badly or it'll never be written
Amazing, thank you!!!!!!! I totally missed that. :)
Author and former bookstore owner Danny Caine discusses the dangers of HR 7661—a bill that would withhold funds from public schools and libraries that have “sexually oriented” material on their shelves—and the impact it could have on children buff.ly/oKSyQrx
as a parent of a 12 and 14 yo and an author REALLY hoping to break into this space someday, I love those canva sheets, but also great would be something like a full list or filterable database (if you're looking for something else to do lol). Thanks for your good work!
Hey @youngteenlit.bsky.social, recommendation for your awesome book lists: Dustborn by Erin Bowman (dystopian). It might not fit the page count requirement, though, I'm not sure.

We liked Domes and Dripstones, but all 8 of us were completely gobsmacked by the historic tour and the sheer size of the cave.
That's what two park rangers said, that they count as "structures" (they didn't point out the weapons thing). Then both rangers said they are "inside the outside"
my family had an interesting debate while on a spring break trip to Mammoth Cave #nationalpark: Are #caves inside or outside, and why?
(Mammoth is amazing, BTW, and anyone who says otherwise went on the wrong tour)

CASSINI'S MISSION didn't get a real Sibert, but I was thrilled to learn it won a mock Sibert at @katiemcenaney.bsky.social's school! Thanks for the awesome article, Melissa and Katie, and words of affirmation, kiddos!
Gen X here. I have purchased many airline tickets on the phone. Like, verbally.
My spring newsletter with lots of juicy book recommendations for picture books through adult novels is out!

a jeans model with just her fingers in her pocket.
shopping for jeans and I'm BEGGING online retailers to give us more information than "look, my fingers can fit in the pockets" in the photos. I want to see videos of women piling stuff in there before I buy. Phones, keys, index cards, bubbly water, produce... How many apples can fit in the pockets?
You were moved to do this by pride and by hate. Is it any wonder the result was ruin?
Without naming your job, tell me something you say over and over again at work.

cover of the picture book FORTS
I'm over the moon that FORTS was chosen for this years DPIL, and hope it encourages more reading time AND more fort-time, both of which are magical for kids. :) ⛺
Every month, the DPIL sends free, high quality books to any kid 0-5 in the counties where it's set up, encouraging loving grownups to read to the children in their care, fostering connection between them and encouraging a life-long reading habit.
Kids who read turn into adults who read.
Dolly Parton holding a book and smiling into the camera. The logo reads "Proud to be Part of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library 2026"
I am so honored and humbled that the Dolly Parton Imagination Library selected my picture book FORTS to be one of the books sent to hundreds of thousands of children this year. This is the greatest professional honor I could hope for.

(So I’ve heard. I had the same question.)
The award CHOOCH won this year is only given out every other year.
Star Trek The Next Generation scene. We're in engineering with control panels and engineering stuff on the walls and whatnot. We see Picard and Worf, but Picard is a borgs! His whole body is worn in black spandex or rubber or something borgy and he looks to have been transformed into half robot half human, with tubes and wires and mechanics attached to his body and head, including half his face being covered in tech and wires, Phantom of the Opera style. (SING FOR ME, MY ANGEL CHRISTINE!) Picard's whole arm is also now a long metally tool doohickey with sharp smaller tools doohickeys sticking out of the end, and he's holding it to Worf threateningly. Worf, in gold uniform, stands like he's being held at gunpoint. Closed caption reads, "We only wish to raise quality of life." (Editors note, it goes without saying but FUCK ICE)
a perennially good read
I haven't gotten any calls today (yet) from the "real" ALA about Cassini's Mission, but this was some joyful news regarding a kid version of the Sibert Smackdown! Also, kidlit writers should totally follow Katie's blog (link in OP). It's a terrific home to follow what kids actually like to read.
Calypso is just one tiny step above a 90s’ “clip” episode, is what I’m saying.
Calypso felt like the episode that everyone knows isn’t good, but they have to make a certain number of episodes and it’s the best bad idea, so they’re going for it.
Doctor felt like the idea they had after pushing through the mediocre ideas they had to get out of their systems first.
