“Tier 6 is an example of how public-school teachers are being devalued.” - Fran Gachet, UFT Member & D75 Teacher
Education is at the core of our communities. We must provide our educators with the retirement they deserve! #FixTier6

The NYS Foundation Aid Formula delivers support to schools that need it most.
However, last year's changes meant that NYC schools took $314M in cuts. That’s $314M our kids can’t afford.
That’s why @uft.org demands lawmakers fix the Foundation Aid Formula.
Our frontline educators give their ALL to NYC students.
But NYS does NOT value the hard work of new educators.
In Tier 6, teachers work longer, put in more of their paycheck, and retire later than prior tiers – AND all this while teaching is harder than ever before.
This must change. #FixTier6
@uft.org is proud to have the support of allies like @speakermenin.bsky.social and @cndelarosa.bsky.social in the fight to give paraprofessionals the RESPECT they deserve.
They know how hard paras work to help our kids learn and thrive.
Together, let’s get this done!
#RESPECTforParaprofessionals
Public education is an investment in the future of our kids and our City. NYC deserves fully funded public schools that serve all of us, not budget cuts to fund charter schools that serve a select few.
It's time to invest in public education without compromise.
(2/2) Overcrowded classrooms drive away great educators + prevent students from getting the support they need.
Compliance isn’t optional. NYC needs to meet class size mandates. Let’s give students the education they deserve.
Thread (1/2) For classrooms, size matters. Studies show that students in small classes
📚 Obtain higher test scores
📚 Participate more in class
📚 Demonstrate improved behavior
And retain those benefits for years.
@uft.org Paraprofessionals are the backbone of our schools, yet their starting salary is not enough to allow them to thrive in the City that they serve.
Here’s how our paras would spend the RESPECT check, if passed 👇
"[My husband] gets to retire and I have to work an additional 8 years."
There is a staggering gap between the retirement ages for Tier 6 and Tier 4 and public servants are telling @votejgr.bsky.social they can’t afford to wait to retire.
Albany must act now to #FixTier6.
The fight to #FixTier6 is about fairness. Educators work longer and contribute more, yet earn much less, than earlier tiers.
That’s why educators urge Albany to vote NO on the budget if Tier 6 reform is not included in this year’s budget.
@nysenate.bsky.social @nyassemblymajority.bsky.social
Fixing Tier 6 is good for teachers and the school budgets alike. By lowering the retirement age, schools can save without cutting education, all while enabling educators to retire with dignity.

IT'S TIME TO GET LOUD 📢
Passing Tier 6 reforms help educators retire with confidence, attracts top talent to our schools, and empowers educators to serve their communities.
That’s why the movement to #FixTier6 is louder than ever!!
These are changes that benefit everyone
UFT members are turning up the heat to pass #Tier6 🔥
Lawmakers like @governor.ny.gov agree - Tier 6 needs to be reformed. Our members deserve to retire at 55 after 30 yrs of service.
So, what are we waiting for, let’s make it happen! #FixTier6💪
The living wage for an NYC resident, estimated by MIT’s living wage calculator, is ~$76,420 per year. First-year paraprofessionals don’t even make half that.
@council.nyc.gov - enough is enough - pass the RESPECT check to ensure paras get what they've earned. #RESPECTforParaprofessionals
Senators Jabari Brisport & @rjpbrooklyn.bsky.social do not waiver when it comes to supporting NYC's educators and students.
We are grateful for their continued support – and look forward to working with them to #FixTier6, reform Foundation Aid funding and achieve so much more!
(2/2) To @speakermenin.bsky.social, @cndelarosa.bsky.social and this bill’s cosponsors who helped advance this bill - your support means so much to the 26,000 paraprofessionals that serve our students.

(1/2):🚨NEWS: @council.nyc.gov 's budget proposal has the RESPECT Check among its top 3 priorities!
Thank you! Let's get this over the finish line!

#RESPECTforParaprofessionals
Paraprofessionals can’t afford to live and work in NYC.
That's why we need to turn the NYC Council paraprofessional "RESPECT Check" bill into reality.
Paras keep our schools running, yet their starting salary is only $32K… this is shameful!

.@uft.org President Michael Mulgrew on why Tier 6 is driving teachers out the door: younger educators are forced to work longer for smaller pensions. So they leave.
We need to #FixTier6. NYC educators deserve fair pensions. NYC students deserve experienced educators.

Tier 6 IS fixable — we've done it before, & we can do it again.
30 years is a career. Retiring at age 55 after working for that long is a good Fix for Tier 6.
@nyassemblymajority.bsky.social, @nysenate.bsky.social, reduce the retirement age, let’s get it done!
@uft.org is proud to support Carl Wilson for City Council. He understands the needs of educators and students and has spent the past decade fighting to ensure that everyone, not just the powerful, have a seat at the table.

Assemblymember @keithpowersnyc.bsky.social is a true @uft.org ally. His work to give #RESPECTforParaprofessionals on the City Council last year, has provided us with early momentum in 2026.
In Albany, we can’t wait to support our teachers & #FixTier6 together!
Day 2 of our 6 p.m. swarm to remind our legislators that Tier 6 reform must be included in the state budget.
Any budget without significant Tier 6 reform should receive a NO vote.
