Oh geez what a tragedy

Even small stimulation fields are biased towards activating adjacent white matter over grey matter, and activate feed-forward networks that travel through multiple layers of synapses and far away brain areas
It has been done before. Motor subregions of the thalamus have been conventional deep brain stimulation targets for essential tremor for many years. But the new trend of expanding to other thalamic nuclei for epilepsy is really exciting

I'm very excited to share that I'm starting a new postdoc position in Neurosurgery at Baylor College of Medicine! Stay tuned for more things brain stimulation and engineering, now for new applications in cognitive neuroscience and psychiatry
Surely each brain region needs to have access to information coming from lots of other regions in order to guide how it does its main job(s). Targeted causal perturbations of each of these regions may tell a different story
Pretty sure they're all enshittified now to get you to spend more time on the site for more ad monetization.
We also talk about the key criteria that would make some implementations better than others, including effectiveness, efficiency, and clinical ease of use, and discuss some challenges/future directions
We describe the techniques that could automate DBS programming, focusing on Parkinson’s disease. These include biomarkers that can provide objective outcome measurement, and an accessible intro to the machine learning/AI techniques that are most likely to be useful for this problem.
To get DBS to work well, clinicians spend many hours manually programming (setting the device parameters). This process limits DBS accessibility, delays optimal treatment, and constrains the potential for next-generation technology to improve patient outcomes.
New review article is out! Are we ready for automated deep brain stimulation programming?

Good to know they're still doing that whole 'funding science' thing. Congrats!
Important message for all the Matlab haters out there
AGI already figured out the secretse of human nature?
My thesis is due today btw
Can I tag along? :)
