I’d say that he doesn’t view the photographer as essential (he is wrong there) and he will fail spectacularly if he doesn’t realize that the NBA and NHL are two different beasts, and people in the NBA are way more competent so his marginal advantages just aren’t there in the NBA.

This read is consistent with how my Canes fan friend in Raleigh describes Dundon. He will spend when warranted, but will try to cut anything that he doesn’t view as impacting winning. He will have some lessons to learn for sure, but he isn’t cheap for being cheap’s sake.
