DC reviewing contract to relocate major storm sewer under RFK campus The first phase of construction for a new Commanders stadium at the RFK site is getting closer, as a key infrastructure project now heads to the D.C. Council for review.

“Under the proposed deal, an affiliate of the team would design and oversee the project, costing District taxpayers nearly $50 million. But even before construction begins, some are raising concerns about possible impacts to the nearby Anacostia River.”

NCPC is concerned about the proposed parking garages at RFK stadium. Thankful that federal planners care more about details than our district leaders did.

a man in a suit walks through a parking lot Alt: a man in a suit walks through a parking lot

It's telling that all the renderings of the RFK Stadium redevelopment either don't show or profoundly minimize the parking structures, making it look like it's going to blend seamlessly into the urban fabric, instead of be surrounded by a fortress of parking that will be empty 95% of the time.

Yes! Stadiums in other capital cities have little to no parking—London, Madrid, Berlin, Copenhagen, etc. In US taxpayers are forced to subsidize cars. Very backwards.

Chair @chmnmendelson.bsky.social could always redirect funds to build and infill station and rely on all the regional WMATA parking garages at metro stations!

There's a metro stop close to there and it's downtown DC. Why are you driving in anyway? No. Just fucking abolish the parking.

lol - why didn’t the DC Council put any protections against this in the legislation they drafted and then voted 11-2 to adopt last summer?!

Moving what we’re now calling an 11-story parking deck from the flood plain to the most developable portions of land on the RFK site is something else…

Shame on Mendelson for saying this after ramming the deal through with no regard for detail. Hundreds of people signed petitions and sent literally thousands of emails during the Council’s deliberation urging them to reduce and relocate parking, and add a new metro station. He didn’t listen.
