It helps to be multilingually fluent if you are malaysian. Just spoke to a professor today who was looking for research assistants who spoke and wrote chinese bc she's doing a study on malaysian elderly (she already has RAs who spoke malay)
And you know like so many malaysians of my age who natively speak english (and other languages) but are subjected to the usual indignities of having to take english tests when some allegedly native fuckers aren't just by virtue of being lucky to born in the right country
I don't know how to express this eloquently but there was something freeing about seeing malaysians represented as malaysian AND english speaking, which is what I am and honestly even what my parents are! My father did a masters in Oxford in the 70s! Comfortable both speaking and warping english!
