I got this indie gem in a bundle with another of Steve's novels, The Wings of Ashtaroth (a queer epic fantasy), and I'm eager to dive in. It's epic fantasy length, though, and I love big books, but they terrify me as a slow reader 😅 So I guess stay tuned for my review in like... five years? 🙃

I could tell before I finished it (like way before) that I’d want to reread it to catch all the little details that would hit differently with the knowledge of the full story.

The novel definitely didn’t disappoint! I love a narrator who might just be unreliable and horror that doesn’t hold back. (Do check the trigger warnings if you need them.)

This book was everything I could have hoped for. It’s both horrific and funny, and it has so many great lines!
I was really excited to read this because I’ve seen some of the author's social media posts about monsters and horror, and he clearly knows his stuff.

I’ve read 21 books for pleasure so far this year (not counting the books I read for work). I’m so impressed with my progress, as a slow reader. My efforts to make more time for books have really paid off!

And I guess I should feel more insulted as an editor too, but at the same time, I don't believe they actually think AI work is as good as ours. They're just cutting costs, regardless of quality.

I find it so disrespectful to the readers. And I'm guessing they'll be expected to pay the same price when less work and quality was invested in the books.

Maybe ... I don't know, hire more human editors?

Trad publishing is angering so many authors (and readers) by doing this.

Well, there's always indie or self-publishing, where you can choose to hire a freelance editor who doesn't use AI.

That's such a great idea! A friend and I would love to start a bookshop if we somehow became rich (unlikely 😅) and only have quality books that we genuinely wish people would read, and authors worthy of support.

I just finished The Erstwhile Tyler Kyle by Steve Hugh Westenra, and it was incredible, but I won't talk about it more just yet because bluesky is broken, and people need to know about this indie #queerhorror gem!

Also, try to focus on the short term benefits. Moving your body helps regulate.
I've always struggled with exercising, but I found some easy step workouts I can do at home. It's low commitment, and I've come to see it as stimming (which makes it easier to get started) since it's repetitive.
