This is a statement from Avery Greatorex:
After deep reflection, I have decided to resign my Labour Party membership, my Co-Chairpersonship of Pride in Labour and join the Green Party of England and Wales.
For years I tried to convince myself that I could create change from within the party and that Labour could be forced to rediscover its soul. The truth, however, is undeniable: Labour has abandoned its purpose and its people. For too long I tried to rationalise staying in the party and telling myself that my fight mattered but I cannot fight for liberation in a party that treats trans lives as disposable. I refuse to give my name, my sleep, my energy and attention to a movement that has chosen cruelty over courage. This is not a party of the working class, but a cruel machine built on control and careerism. It speaks of equality and justice whilst actively legislating misery, selling the lives of people who need them most to a far-right movement that isn’t listening.

The statement from Avery is continued:
My departure is about being true to yourself. I wish Pride in Labour and the few still fighting inside the organisation the utmost strength and resilience because they aren’t the problem here. The rot in the Labour Party lies deeper than them, it is a party that has forgotten what Labour means. The Green Party offers something Labour no longer can: a politics grounded in liberation, solidarity and sincerity. The Green Party is a space where trans rights are not up for debate, where the fight for social justice and climate justice is rightfully seen as the same fight.
I leave the Labour party with sadness but without regret because it is not us who left Labour, it is Labour that left us.
