Writing an op-ed is not grounds for deportation The U.S. government’s escalating attacks on noncitizens’ right to free speech should scare us all.

Detaining and attempting to deport someone for writing an op-ed the government disagrees with is a blatant violation of the First Amendment.

We’re in court today in Vermont to demand that ICE immediately releases Tufts student Rümeysa Öztürk.

"Know Your Protest Rights.
You don't need a permit to protest in response to breaking news and you don't need a permit to march in the streets or along sidewalks, as long as you're not obstructing traffic or access to buildings. When you are lawfully present in any public space, you have the right to photograph anything in plain view, including federal buildings and the police. If you believe your rights have been violated, when you can, write down everything you remember, get contact information for witnesses, and take photographs of any injuries. If you get stopped by the police, ask if you're free to go. If they say yes, calmly walk away.If you get arrested, you have a right to ask why. Otherwise, say you wish to remain silent and ask for a lawyer immediately. Don't sign, say or agree to anything without a lawyer present. If you get stopped by a member of the military or any law enforcement office at a protest, you have the right to remain silent or to tell them that you'll only answer questions in the presence of an attorney-no matter your citizenship or immigration status.”Know Your Rights. Disappointing and troubling given the current political climate and this administration's apparent disregard for first amendment rights!!

Isabella Hammad: “Reading Etel Adnan During a Genocide” Isabella Hammad reckons with literature’s role in witnessing war and genocide, tracing how Sitt Marie-Rose speaks to the present crisis.

Etel Adnan knew that words could bear witness to the unspeakable, even when the world looked away. In the face of Palestinian genocide, Isabella Hammad turns to her as a model of defiance.

Columbia Bent Over Backward to Appease Right-Wing, Pro-Israel Attacks — And Trump Still Cut Federal Funding Columbia bent over backward to appease right-wing, pro-Israel attacks on Gaza protesters — and Trump still cut the school’s federal funding.

“‘Columbia has worked overtime to appease,’ wrote Layla, a student at Columbia’s School of Social Work, who asked to withhold her last name having faced doxxing attacks and harassment from Zionist groups. ‘Students are miserable. Campus is a panopticon. And their funding was still cut.’”

This fantastic article goes over a brief history of obscenity law in America. Some real gems in there.

The idea that pornography would not be protected by the First Amendment is ridiculous. The founding fathers did not condemn pornography; Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin collected it.

The first time someone was charged with obscenity was in 1815. scholarship.law.unc.edu/cgi/viewcont...

The insinuation that physical abuse is associated with poverty is a bit bizarre. I have so many friends from wealthy families who experienced severe physical abuse that was simply never reported, should have been caught by doctors in x-rays, etc, but was ignored because of $$

This case will have profound implications for the future freedom of speech of all kinds online, not just pornography. The same laws that protect sexual expression also protect political expression. I hope everyone's paying close attention.

Exclusive Interview: Stormy Daniels says she’s “screaming into the void.” I might know why If and when City Winery reschedules Stormy Daniels' tour, we can buy tickets, show up, and make it clear that she didn’t storm the castle in vain.

They say that sex workers are the canaries in the coal mine, what happens to everyone happens to us first.
For this reason, you should stop what you're doing & read this interview I did with Stormy (yes, that one!) about the impact of shadowbanning.

THREAD: There is a new version of the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) that was apparently negotiated by Sen Blackburn with help from Elon Musk's X.

Surprising no one: the new version does not fix the fundamental problem with the bill: it gives the FTC authority to dictate what young people see online

Two Very Different Manhattan Murder Investigations The NYPD spent countless hours and resources searching for a CEO’s killer, but has made little evident progress on the fatal stabbing of a migrant teen.

As NYPD officials boasted of the resources expended finding the killer of a corporate CEO, another sidewalk murder the same week, of a migrant teen, has not received the same treatment. hellgatenyc.com/two-manhatta...
