Oh I’ve not seen that. Which track does that happen in?

Now playing ‘Focus at the Rainbow’. Released in 1973 this album still astounds me in how four guys can go on stage at what, at the time, was probably their most important concert and play such a blisteringly incredible set.

Forging ahead to read as many A.E. van Vogt sci-fi books as possible we come to 'The Anarchistic Colossus' published in 1977. Like many of his later novels there's some far-out ideas in here but the plot is rather fragmented and difficult to follow. Having said that I quite enjoyed this one.

This week I am mostly listening to albums by artists beginning with the letter - I

I could fill the week with albums of IB collaborations & be a happy listener but I'll try & add some variety. But will start with this stunner.

Fabulous review @igloomag.bsky.social for Serge Works.
It's so good to see someone who truly "gets" what I'm trying to do here.

Nice one. To avoid the spaghetti I configure my cases to have modules I know will be patched together close to each other. Also once the patch is working I replace long cables with shorter ones where possible. The Tendrils cables are also a good choice.

Channeling some Berlin School vibes during reherasal for my gig alongside @flcartographer.bsky.social & @sulkrooms.bsky.social at the Capstone Theatre in Liverpool in a weeks time on April 25th. Still some tickets left if you fancy an amazing evening of electronic music inc. a 3-way jam at the end.

I first formulated that idea in my original Tone Science (DiN49) which is comprised of 5 self playing pieces.

Serge Works (DiNDDL35) out now as a digital album comprising five 30+ minute improvisations done entirely on my Serge modular system. As such, it is a deeply personal, experimental album exploring unknown, abstract, totally analogue electronic sound worlds.

The case itself is made by Make Noise but yeah I love my AJH modules.

Final modular rigs I'm using at the Capstone Theatre, Liverpool gig on the 25th April. Make Noise rack has Hermod as the brain of the system with 2 AJH synth voices + a third low bass. The small rack is centred on the BitBox Micro sample playback whereas the Doepfer rack does more sequencing + FX.

Releasing on Friday (17th) Serge Works is a very special album comprised of five 30+ minute modular improvisations on my large Serge system. Ranging from a tribute to Éliane Radigue to a piece based on Bach harmonies this experimental album will be a Bandcamp digital exclsuive.

I sometimes feel that Carpenter just didn’t have the budget to fulfill his visions but his films always have entertainment value.

Only two weeks to go to the Capstone Theatre gig where I wil be performing alongside @flcartographer.bsky.social & @sulkrooms.bsky.social. Here is another clip from my rehearsals with an unusual vantage point looking down to where I am playing my French Connection for that Ondes Martenot sound.

Created this half-speed soundscape using my trusty old Revox from an improvisation using some of the elements I'll be using in my forthcoming concert at the Capstone in Liverpool. My Patreon supporters get access to the full 30 minute piece. www.patreon.com/c/ianboddy

Continuing my A. E. van Vogt saga with this 1979 novel 'Renaissance'. The main plot is rather silly tbh - set in a future where Earth is ruled by alien overlords (the Utt) who have established a matriarchal society, forcing men to wear chemically treated glasses to keep them in check. Not his best.

Now playing The Focus Symphony. I wasn’t aware of this until I stumbled upon a pair of excellent documentaries on YouTube. It’s really rather wonderful but then again I’m biased as Focus were my favourite band whilst at High School in the 70s.

It's always good to have some crazy, spacey, scary FX in your sonic arsenal at a gig. These are from a Morphing Terrarium (Wavetable VCO) > Cwejman Frequency Shifter > Cwejman Spatial Phaser > Erica Synths Black Hole FX with my trusty old Livewire Vulcan Modulator on LFO duties.

And now a photo of a different kind of spaceship. Tbh the cover image by Chris Foss for 'Planets for Sale' is the best thing about this volume. Although credited here to A. E. van Vogt it is actually written by his wife under the name of E. Mayne Hull but looks like later editions switched names.

I'm of an age where I can remember sitting with my Dad & watching the Apollo missions lift off for the moon. Seeing Artemis II do the same over 5 decades later is no less exciting. Total admiration for the ingenuity of all at NASA & the bravery of the 4 astronauts embarking on this new adventure.

Sorting my modular setup for the forthcoming gig alongside @flcartographer.bsky.social & @sulkrooms.bsky.social at the Capstone Theatre in Liverpool on 25th April. Hermod as ever at the centre of things with various sequences & triggers. Arps from the KeyStep. Lots to play with here.

Four weeks today for this concert where I will be playing alongside @flcartographer.bsky.social & @sulkrooms.bsky.social at the Capstone Theatre in Liverpool. We're all playing solo sets followed by a three way jam session which should be fun. Modulars at the ready. Hope to see some of you there.
