Swapped the desk for a couple of days of island life on Skomer - time well spent with the locals π§

We have a new paper out, in which we use brute force to identify combinations of land use/management changes which navigate the triple challenge of climate change, biodiversity conservation and food production: www.nature.com/articles/s41... #ConservationScience π @rspbscience.bsky.social 1/
We hope this approach supports more transparent, flexible, and evidence-based planning for land, climate, and biodiversity goals.

π This work builds on our previous research looking at spatially explicit land use scenarios:
www.cell.com/one-earth/fu...
π Key findings:
β’ Many different routes can deliver net zero
β’ Some pathways are clearly more efficient - better outcomes with fewer trade-offs
β’ The scale of decision-making (UK-wide vs devolved nations) affects not just efficiency, but equity too
We generated 10,000 random UK land use pathways - each combining different quantities and combinations of eight climate mitigation measures.
The aim? To identify which combinations perform best across climate, food, and biodiversity outcomes.
π First post here!
Excited to share our new paper just published in Scientific Reports:
βRandomised land use pathway generation allows efficient multi-outcome appraisalβ
