If by “a power to reckon with” you mean an obnoxious, boot licking apple polisher from day one

i think even with all the atrocities of the fascists, nothing is more demotivating and nothing makes me want to disengage from politics more than being inundated with replies from people who do not know how to think about politics beyond “dems good and wanting more from them is bad”

In America you drop your kid off at school, get your brains blown out on the ride home, then the Vice President drops everything for a week to call you a terrorist, to slander your family, to protect the circumstances that led to your death so they can do it again. It is government by Alex Jones.

It's a big day for those fluent in the good grammar of civility looking to deploy decorum to mask agendas of cruelty

The GOP "healthcare plan," if they ever come out with one, is going to be "Peloton is 80% off and only the rich get chemo."

The point of RFKism is that healthcare is a consumer choice, and the right choice is Instagram woo. If you didn't go to the Equinox juice bar the ensuing cancer is your fault.

I had a coworker at MU just like this during the height of the poker boom - dropped out over a long weekend after winning some online tourney that came w/ entry into some low-level WSOP event, and convinced himself he was the next Phil Hellmuth.

Got fired from my job for saying that Samantha on Bewitched didn’t really wiggle her nose, she was just kind of twitching her mouth back and forth.

Increasingly think a lot of the things that didn't kill me made me weaker.

Not sure this teacher has fully thought this thru. What % of parents do you think will tell their kids their theories on Building 7?

This reminds me of an excellent Zach Galifianakis bit about bonding with his (fictional) brother over their shared appreciation of a single Fugees song.

The Pat McAfee Show is just Ellen for straight guys in their 30’s that still slap each other in the balls

Another factor is that even before AI made it worse, Google search already kinda sucked, and would regularly promote scam/third party cites ahead of the thing you were specifically looking for, so finding accurate product info was already a chore.

Toss up between Michael Clayton and Uncut Gems for me.

I’d love to claim my opposition to that stuff all comes from a principled place, but he’s right - it’s almost as offensive how boring and unoriginal all that material is at this point.

Agreed, but just as proof of concept I would have expected it to be able to, like, compile a mileage report. It can’t, and even functions they’re actively promoting, like automated meeting notes, don’t work very well.

I try to keep an open mind and not sound like a crank, but its inability to automate the most basic, redundant tasks from my email job, when we had an IT team assembled to make it happen, was eye-opening.

At first I thought GPT 5 had got this right then I saw things like "Tonnessee," "Mississipo" and my personal favourite "West Wigina." Please do not respond just saying the different typos to me we can all read the joke, we all know about "Distrricke"

It’s wild how many big, expensive ad buys like this the Dems just throw down the toilet. Can’t believe they still haven’t found some gen Z staffers normal enough to point out the ones that won’t attract half as many voters as they’ll alienate on your side.

There was lots of toxic BS about the whole “sellout” thing in the 90s/00’s, and I get why it’s a thing of the past, but there’s still something jarring about how open some social media celebs are about the transactional nature of what‘a replaced it.

Ok, fair. He’s definitely got a gift for that, I’m probably just being overly nostalgic for a time when “selling out” was still a thing.

The more pressing concern: what have we done to Gen Z/Alpha that has made them so oblivious to the fact that this guy is charisma-less?

Gen Z/Alpha/whatever’s inability to identify charisma (or lack thereof) needs to be studied. Dude talks to/smiles at a camera like a robot trying to convince you he’s human. The fact that he’s made it this big should be seen as an indictment of all of pop culture.

This whole thing was almost certainly an op with the ultimate goal of forcing AOC to answer this question.

There’s a portion of rank and file Dems that thinks Trump’s entire appeal comes from his celebrity, and that it can be replicated by anyone comparably famous. They genuinely think they could fix everything by filling the senate with celebs like Frankin and get Oprah to run for POTUS.
