The whiplash of Holy Week is real, but so is the promise it brings: in our journeys of darkness, we never tarry alone toward the light of resurrection that is always on the horizon.
Journey well, my friends.

The hope? We do so as we follow a resurrected Jesus who’d made that journey too. A Savior who understands. A God who walks alongside us instead of watching from afar.

Yet, Lent and Holy Week are good rhythms for us because they remind us of the reality of life: we will journey through the darkness of this world over and over in our search for resurrection.

Today, as I stood preaching through my Easter sermon while also thinking about my Maundy Thursday homily, the whiplash felt strong.
Why? I guess because we are a post-resurrection people called by Holy Week to tone it down a bit. Almost so much that it feels wrong.

I have always held to the belief that Holy Week feels a bit like whiplash for ministers. We prepare for Easter Sunday, while also constantly backtracking into Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Stations of the Cross.

Walking down the hallway of my apartment as another resident walks down the hall in my direction.
“Hey,” she says.
“Hello, how are you?” I respond in a cheerful voice…
… as she looks at me strange and then continues the conversation happening in her AirPods.

With all the noise out there lately (especially from outdated ideas), we just want to make it clear: autism isn’t something to be feared or “blamed” on anything. It’s not a tragedy. Our son is not broken. He’s kind, funny, and 100% himself.

Just want to take a minute to say how proud we are of our son. His #autism is a part of who he is—and it brings out strengths, insights, and perspectives that constantly amaze us. 1/2

Baptists are historically dissenters in moments where religious freedom is at risk in the USA. I am thankful to be a part of a Baptist movement that is honoring that as we build the diverse kingdom that Christ has called us to as we serve one another.

EVERY person, no matter where they are born, has within them the image of God. For Christians, this is a truth to not be ignored.
