"There is no path to a healthy economy without a healthy public and investment in science"/"Il n'y a pas de chemin vers une économie saine sans une population en santé et un investissement en science”... To The Right Honourable Mark Carney, Prime Minister of Canada and the new Liberal Government:  A healthy economy needs a healthy public and investment in science. We would like to congratulate you on ...

Carney wants a nation-building program while Trump threatens Canada & cancels US research?

Easy: invest in Canadian science research.

Canada is already at forefront for cancer vaccines. Grant money needed

Good to know! I hope @canadastrong.bsky.social realize that Canadians have taken the flag back from Convoy-ers and brought it back to its true representation…as a symbol for our country.

We can wear it with pride for what makes us Canadian and NOT American.

Demand is high, now.

I bought the Canada maple leaf mask from @canadastrong.bsky.social on sale, last year. I think they were clearing them out so it looks like a limited edition version. However maybe they can be convinced to bring it back?

How about it, Canada Strong Masks? Demand should be high, given circumstances.

In BC, kids were thrown back to school with no meaningful protection from airborne viruses+the mask mandate was dropped before <12 yo could get vaccinated with a booster. Caregivers were assured of safety. Those who were harmed should get compensation. There was no alternative for formal education.

Thank you both for this conversation. Good to know! I’ve passed it on. Cheers.

“You look at Canada’s Bonnie Henry in BC. On day one she insisted that the kids wouldn’t get infected. Then she went and published a paper, put her own name on it, bragging about how herd immunity has been achieved because 90 percent of Canadian kids have been infected”

B.C. teen no longer critical with avian flu, has been taken off oxygen | Globalnews.ca According to the case summary, the patient was a 13-year-old girl with a history of mild asthma who first reported to a hospital on Nov. 4.

BC teen no longer critical, taken off oxygen.

We found this out through a letter in the @nejm.org because our health officials refused to provide an update "unless there was a need from the public health perspective to do so"

Asking #bced teachers/staff/parents for a friend:

Does anyone know what the secondary school grade policy is for extended medical absence (for grades other than grade 12)? (In BC)

To all Canadian universities:

Have you read 🇨🇦’s Chief Science Advisor’s latest report on the very real post-Covid harms of reinfections?

She tells institutions to implement protections like better iAQ and yes, masking.

Saying nothing is negligent. PSA campaign needed!

“Debilitating a Generation”: Expert Warns That Long COVID May Eventually Affect Most Americans In a candid discussion with INET's Lynn Parramore, Dr. Phillip Alvelda highlights the imminent dangers of long COVID, criticizing governments and health agencies for ongoing preventable suffering and ...

When we said this years ago on Twitter… based on maths… they said it was ridiculous.

Slowly, slowly… this train is pulling out of the station.

We’ll see what full speed looks like.

Hi all,

I'm slowly building a moderation list of accounts that spread egregious false claims about COVID, vaccines etc.

You can subscribe to it and mute/block if you want.

Figured I'd make use of the trolling on my COVID/vaccine posts.

BC #H5N1 update: International media & scientists: please tune in for Dr. Bonnie Henry’s “invitation-only” briefing re: the B.C. teen. Hoping for the best…🤞

Re: Risk - Dr. Henry has a history of downplaying. Is that why the link isn’t public?

Luckily the link was leaked ⬇️.

Bonnie Henry leading anything related to a virus with pandemic potential should scare the crap out of us.

Her callous disregard for human life every time she talks about Covid has NOT gone unnoticed.

Her unwillingness to learn from SARS1 is astoundingly cruel.

I hope the BC teen pulled through.

I still don’t understand how after almost 4 years and millions of dollars, we still have nothing.
No vaccines that stop transmission
No monoclonal antibodies
No antivirals or treatments for LC
No clean air
No updated tests
No plan to stop this

Screenshot of the study published yesterday Annals of Neurology. Title: Neurologic Manifestations of Long COVID Disproportionately Affect Young and Middle-Age Adults. Interpretation: Younger and middle-age individuals are disproportionally affected by post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (Neuro-PASC) regardless of acute COVID-19 severity. Although older people more frequently have abnormal neurologic findings and comorbidities, younger and middle-age patients suffer from a higher burden of Neuro-PASC symptoms and cognitive dysfunction contributing to decreased QoL. Neuro-PASC principally affects adults in their prime, contributing to profound public health and socioeconomic impacts warranting dedicated resources for prevention, diagnosis and interventions. You may think that neurological symptoms in #LongCovid are for old people, but it is the opposite. Young adults (18–44 years) and middle-aged (45–64 years) with mild acute #COVID cases (non-hospitalized), represent 90% of the cases of #NeuroCovid. Read here: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/...

B.C. health minister acknowledges children's flu deaths after leak, doesn't explain secrecy B.C.’s health minister did not disclose an exceptionally high number of influenza deaths among children until pressed by reporters Wednesday, a day after CTV News reported six such tragedies have been...

To world scientists who are carefully watching BC’s #H5N1 developments, be aware that Dr. Henry has a record of downplaying illness such as Lyme, SARS1 (Toronto 2003) & COVID.

This too: she only admitted 6 child deaths from flu complications in Dec.’22 AFTER doctors leaked it.

Demand transparency.

With H5 very much in the news and Canada's Dr. Bonnie Henry once again in the spotlight, I think I should remind everyone just what type of public health official she is:

The book on her desk is "Soap and Water & Common Sense," her work that she rushed to have reprinted as soon as covid struck.

Looks like it’ll be worth following him for future updates. He’s on Twitter @HNimanFC, not on BlueSky yet.

Let’s hope that never happens. Dr. Tam should be watching provincial health officials’ actions carefully before stepping down and passing on the reins. Anyone who downplays airborne transmission, effectiveness of masks & long term harms while also promoting “hybrid immunity” doesn’t deserve the job.

1 year ago 2 1 0 0

Ugh, yes. Dr. Bonnie Henry has been awful at containing 2 pandemics so far. Both times she’s been criticized for downplaying risks, not taking airborne transmission seriously and allowing spread to happen with lax protocols.

Letting her do so AGAIN, but with #H5N1 would be a massive mistake.
