The remarkable Artemis II mission isn’t making me more passionate about Mars. It’s making me more passionate about Earth.

Guess what? It was a beautiful day to jump in the Gorge! #YYJ
Charging network is basically all of it. Like “between two and four” DC Fast Chargers at each ON Route is comically insufficient for one of the continent’s busiest highways.
Scherzer vs Schneider. Max starts tonight vs Dodgers.
Let’s gooooooooooo!
HISTORIC HEAT WAVE IN EUROPE
History is about to be rewritten in Europe with an extraordinary April warm spell which will smash hundreds of records in Spain,France,Germany,Switzerland,Austria.
Starting from Today we will see >30C in France.
It will be historic.
Many of you already know, but for those who don’t,
I’m running for Victoria city council!
Thanks to everyone who came out to my campaign launch, it was great to see so many friendly faces.
Hoping for TACO Tuesday because the alternative is very bad.
Ontario electricity rates

Especially considering how wildly inexpensive overnight charging is in Ontario. Seems like a no brainer where a “fill up” of our van would cost $3.28. Add a bidirectional charger to power your house during peak and voila, basically free energy.
Absolute cinema watching that jar of Nutella escape contain behind the backs of the astronauts after packing other things away
Earth and Moon from DSCOVR NASA's Earth Polychromatic Imaging Camera (EPIC) aboard the Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR) satellite captured this unique view of the Moon as it moved in front of the sunlit side of Earth last month. This view shows the fully illuminated “dark side” of the moon that is never visible from Earth. Ian Regan processed this version of the image to account for the Moon's motion. NASA / NOAA / Ian Regan
I hadn't seen this before. This is pretty remarkable.

Happy birthday to us!
Canary Media is celebrating five years of covering the clean energy transition and all the policy flip-flops, utility scandals, and tech breakthroughs that have come with it.
Help keep us running for another five years — and many more — with a donation:
In a Canadian context, I think Calgary and Edmonton have more to offer than people think.
Lunar orb showing mostly the far side which has many more craters and less dark patches

LOOK HOW DIFFERENT THE FAR SIDE IS!
so unfamiliar!
Good day to remind everyone that we must fight to preserve the radio heritage / quietness of this region, it’s the only place shielded from Earth’s EM radiation.
I hope there are radio telescope there one day! 📡

This feels true of Canada, too. EV adoption in BC feels light years ahead of Ontario (per observations on my recent ~6 weeks there). EVs and EV charging were conspicuously absent from most places.

Charging density.
The two biggest determinants of EV adoption globally are subsidies and charging density.
Cargo Bike capital of Canada, for sure. Just a big front basket ;)
Is Victoria, BC, the front basket bike capital of Canada? Just asking.
I think it’s been shown that having a base system of docked transit-type bike share can have layers of dockless types in addition. But the idea of dumping a bunch of bikes on the sidewalk & calling that a system doesn’t fly. Doesn’t have the permanence/infrastructure vibe that docked does, either.

Bingo. Anything with an app is subject to obligatory enshittification. Shared bikes shouldn’t require an app, the app can be a convenience, but should never be required.
I hear you. I think of bike share is more like an extension of transit, & walking to a transit stop seems reasonable. Plus the tradeoffs and choices about social use of space that we’re at least thinking about (and obviously the motor-industrial complex has resisted this kind of thinking forever).
Yep. I don’t yell at people riding on the sidewalk unless they are riding literally next to a good bike lane. People have a lot of reasons they feel unsafe and ride on the sidewalk and it’s really not for me to judge. Kids passing me in the bike lane by riding on the sidewalk excepted, fuck them.
People who ride their bikes on the sidewalks should get 2-way protected bike lanes
Huh, weird. When the "cash strapped city council" has voted to increase the police budget every single year, it has literally never once been framed this way. Not once.
$175k is what a single cop costs annually, btw.
Yes and docking stations typically take space from cars rather than dumping equipment in pedestrian space. Why do you say docked is a scam? All of North America’s biggest bike share systems are docked (Montreal, NYC, DC, Toronto, Chicago, etc)
New buildings are MUCH more expensive than old ones. A slightly-larger new bldg can only exist if it's MUCH pricier; a much-larger new bldg can divide those fixed costs across many more sq ft.
Docked bike share doesn’t have this problem.
Protected bike and roll lane with young street trees on both sides. There are pink blossoms 🌸 on the trees on the right side.
More bike and roll lanes should have trees and gardens on both sides. Delightful climate action. This is Pandora St at Douglas in #VictoriaBC today. #yyj
