Overall a nice read with a diverse cast. It definitely could have been fleshed out better, but as is it is a very character driven story. A thought that lingers is, what is a soul?

Fourth Wing Review Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros, the first book in The Empyrean series, is set in Navarre, a kingdom alongside fearsome dragons. The protagonist, Violet, faces an unexpected path on Conscription Day, shifting from her scribe aspirations to surviving in the dangerous Riders Quadrant. The story features a diverse cast, emotional betrayals, and a mix of humor and complexity, particularly with the dragon characters. While the world-building is appreciated, the review notes excessive foreshadowing and issues with spice levels that detract from the experience. Additionally, concerns about relationship boundaries and anachronistic language affect immersion. Overall, it received a 3.5-star rating.
