• Laura Helena Pimentel da Silva is an author, children’s activist and peer researcher, with past experiences of living in out of home care (and running away).

• Helle Schjellerup Nielsen has a Master in Social Anthropology and engages in social work research related to children’s participation and everyday lives in residential care.

Speaker biographies:

• Ann-Karina Henriksen, has a Ph.D. and Master in Social Anthropology. Her research is mainly qualitative focusing on secure institutions, crime prevention, mental health and welfare state encounters of youth in vulnerable positions.

📃The seminar will engage scholars across disciplines in shared reflections on research related to youth at risk. University College Copenhagen and Vive (Denmark) teams will present findings from an ongoing study on youth running away from residential care.

Gillian has been a valued colleague and mentor to so many within CSWIR and the School of Education and Social Work and will be deeply missed!

We wish her all the best for her retirement and look forward to collaborating with her as an Emeritus professor in the future.

This month, we say goodbye to former CSWIR Director and Co-Director, colleague and friend, Gillian Ruch.

Gillian led the centre for six years years. During this time, she forged international connections, grew the centre’s reputation and was dedicated to supporting postgraduate researchers. (1/2)
