Finally, there's climate change. While people focus on beef, keep in mind that even the lowest-carbon meat -- chicken -- emits 3x as much as plant-based meat, and 6x as much as beans and lentils.

Those numbers are crazy...how many are estimated world wide...!!

A lot of people here in Devon, UK say grass-fed local beef and dairy is fine...nope!

Admirable. Do we know how these countries will put pressure on the biggest culprits to decarbonise? Will they act as one?

2 days ago 1 0 1 0

Who even knows they are using it half of the time?

A 6 year old understand this

Sheep provide a tiny amount of calories for all GN countries and decimate the land, preventing tree growth and carbon sinks. Take sheep off the land and sequester carbon!

Sadly most people never consider where their money is invested or which bank they use... this should be taught in schools, showing which banks fund fossil fuels, what a pension is etc

Well 2 out of those 3 I think we can live with. Hopefully enough rice will be produced so that no one goes hungry

The animal agriculture industry will continue to shield people (and create an idyllic portrait of) from the realities of 98% of how their meat is treated.

As far as fake meats go the meat lobbisyists have done a job on it with 'all UPFs are bad'...which they aren't. Also, even if some foods are 'bad' the answer is eat that food infrequently (as you would do, say Ice-cream)

And yet around 90% of people happily eat it 🤔... cognitive dissonance!

We’re letting big corporations gamble with our lives. Act now, or the food could run out | George Monbiot The fragility of the global food system fills me with dread – and the war with Iran has exposed just how close to collapse it is, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

"Just as we make ourselves more energy-secure by switching from fossil fuels to renewables, we make ourselves more food-secure by switching from animals to plants." - @georgemonbiot.bsky.social

As @billmckibben.bsky.social says, we urgently need to stop burning things for energy.

This includes burning fossil fuels of course, but also burning trees and crops, which *increases* emissions for decades.

We need to electrify energy systems using solar and wind.

Breaking: New study using observational constraints projects that the Atlantic Ocean circulation #AMOC will weaken ~50% by 2100, even for medium emissions and without Greenland melting. 🌊
More realistic models means stronger weakening - not entirely unexpected.

Global glacier mass change in 2025 - Nature Reviews Earth & Environment Glaciers lost 408 ± 132 Gt of mass during the hydrological year 2025, equivalent to 1.1 ± 0.4 mm sea-level rise. Since 1975, glacier mass loss has totalled 9,583 ± 1,211 Gt, equivalent to 26.4 ± 3.3 m...

Glaciers had one of their worst years in 2025:

👉 408 billion tonnes of ice mass lost
👉 ≈1.1 mm added to global sea levels
👉 6 of the 7 worst years have happened in the past 7 yrs

Since 1975: ~9,600 billion tonnes gone (≈26.4 mm SLR)

This isn’t a gradual change...

Certainly not coming to a forecourt near you in America because the fossil fuel giants and their puppets in government like making lots and lots of cool money from easily-conned petrolheads.

Ancient DNA reveals that hunter-gatherers in what is now Belgium and the Netherlands survived until 2500 BC, when the rest of Europe was already engaged in agriculture Ancient DNA shows hunter-gatherers in Europe’s wetlands survived thousands of years longer than expected

This study supports " The Dawn of Everything" hypothesis ( @davidwengrow.bsky.social ) that hunter-gatherers lasted much longer than previously thought. Also supports the concept in"Sapiens" (Yuval Noah Harari) that the switch to agriculture could be considered a significant downgrade.
