How California’s Kids Are Taking On Big Oil After last year’s devastating wildfires, young Californians are spearheading a growing movement to force polluters—not taxpayers—to pay for the damage.

We just filed an emergency legal motion today alongside Alaska Wildlife Alliance seeking to prevent the state from killing an unlimited number of brown and black bears across roughly 40,000 square miles in southwest #Alaska this summer.

Invisible plumes and ‘terrible pollution’: the reality of the US gas sites rated ‘grade A’ Exclusive: Guardian investigation into reliability of methane certification issued by MiQ reveals weakness of voluntary model

The LNG we import in Europe is far from clean.

Visible methane plumes at US gas sites rated “grade A” resulting in much higher upstream emissions.

Auditors don’t measure emissions — they review operator data that studies show is massively understated.

Opinion | California safeguards pumas as federal rules fail to protect their habitat The state placed six mountain lion species on the threatened list, so road and land developers must evaluate projects to not isolate pumas.

"Protecting pumas does more than help one species. Mountain lions go where other wildlife go. When we take care of their habitat, we help bears, bobcats, raptors, badgers, songbirds and beetles," writes Tiffany Yap, our urban wildlands science director in an #OpEd for @calmatters.org ⬇️

The US is now paying more than any other country for climate change damage, study suggests | BBC Science Focus Magazine Despite being the biggest carbon emitter, the US is already paying a disproportionate price for the climate crisis.

Citing Iran crisis, Trump orders Santa Barbara oil pipeline restart. California will fight it Trump is using Cold War-era emergency powers to force a California oil pipeline back online — and Gov. Newsom vows to sue, to block the move.

“This is a revolting power grab by an extremist president.” --Talia Nimmer, @biologicaldiversity.org

Forcing the Sable pipelines to restart will NOT lower gas prices, but it WILL expose coastal wildlife to the risk of another oil spill.

Talking with David Roberts Climate, energy, and America left behind
3 weeks ago 0 0 0 0

Why has the U.S. rejected cheap, plentiful electricity in favor of coal, oil, and gas? Because a dozen billionaires who own oil companies have made it so, contrary to the will of a majority of Americans.

If that doesn’t make us a petrostate, I don’t know what does.

3 weeks ago 130 24 3 1

I think this is right. China is all-in on solar, batteries, etc., while the U.S. is absolutely refusing to leave the 20th century. Once you dig up and burn a barrel of oil or a ton of coal, it's gone—you've gotta dig up more. Solar panels will produce power for decades.

We're going to get wrecked.

Spain invested heavily in clean energy over the last 6 years. Now, as gas prices rise, Spain has some of the lowest electricity costs on the continent.

In August 2025, Spain used zero coal — just 10 years ago it powered 25% of the country.

This is what energy independence actually looks like. 🌎

Battery costs have declined by 99% in the last three decades, making electrified transport a reality Batteries have become much cheaper, making energy storage far more affordable.

Energy density has also more than tripled since the 1990s, meaning batteries can now store far more energy for their volume.

The half-a-million-dollar battery was never going to transform transport. The $5,000 battery is.

Over 20 million electric cars were sold globally in 2025 — some for as little as $10,000. Even just two decades ago, that would have been impossible.

The reason it's possible now?

Now the Trump admin. wants to get rid of it.

How incredible: “The full delivery took about 30 minutes. For hours afterward, pairs of whales held the baby above the water until it was able to swim…
What struck the researchers was how many mother, sister and daughter whales united to support the new calf, even ones that weren’t related.”
