Living in a dense urbanized city is one of the best choices you can make to protect the planet - a fun fact you can deploy against people who want to get all self-righteous about the supposed evils of cities.

It bears repeating that historically, the #1 thing that keeps people alive in hard times and disasters is “the ability to play well with others”
Hey, speaking of another thing urban areas are actually considerably better at than rural areas
Reminder that the WaPo and most legacy newspapers are owned by right wing billionaires and serve Republican agendas.
Alternatives in the thread!
Me: Isn't this great?
Democrats: Hell yeah. We didn't know we were supposed to fight back
Me: I know. I know...
May Day has been declared a day of civic action in Chicago schools, which means buses will be provided for students and educators to join the rally in Union Park.

Remember, Democrats have repeatedly advanced measures to ban partisan gerrymandering and Republicans have voted against them time after time.
This is the game Republicans wanted to play. OK, then.
Texas republicans illegally gerrymandered their maps and never once asked voters how they feel about it.
California and Virginia let voters decide.
That’s the difference. They started this fight and Democrats are going to fucking finish it.
The message of the Right reacting to Virginia is the same as the message of "2020 was rigged": no victory by anyone but us is ever legitimate. We are the only ones allowed to win.
These people are cartoon villains entitled to no respect and no trust. Rabid dogs.
For the record: The Washington Post can go fuck itself.

Democrats did not want to do any mid-decade redistricting. It was Trump who started it in June 2025 with a phone call to Greg Abbott after more special election losses. Dems warned they’d respond. But Texas did it anyway - without the consent of the voters. Then Dems responded.
L. Louise Lucas @SenLouiseLucas Remember when Republicans drew Virginia's Congressional map so Black people were packed into one district and said we should be grateful they gave our community this district. NOW they can have one district and see how much they love it. Image 8:04 PM · Nov 2, 2025 · 444.4K Views https://x.com/SenLouiseLucas/status/1985151099527942517
"I first saw the apple fritter there in the 70s as a beat cop, while I was high. We talked a little, asked if it wanted me to drive outta the rain. But I'll never forget what it said. 'It'll pass, Dave. It'll always pass. And we'll still be right here.' Still think about that, every day of my life."

The right gambled, tried to rig the election, lost, and now it’s excuses and tears.
Thanks for everything, Virginia. 🙏🏽
Fisherman. We're blowing up fishing boats.
Washington Post Editorial Board headline: “The Texas gerrymander freak out. What’s happening in Texas is not a threat to democracy.”
Washington Post Editorial Board headline: “Virginia plunges America deeper into the gerrymandering abyss. The redistricting scheme was always a power grab by Democrats. Voters went along with it.”
The Washington Post Editorial Board was fine with Republicans gerrymandering in Texas.
But when Democrats responded in Virginia, it’s a “power grab” that “plunges America deeper into the gerrymandering abyss.”
Elon Musk and Peter Thiel routinely kick their critics off the X platform. Which is an excellent reason not to use it. Ever.
GOP - *gerrymanders*
DEMS - hey stop that no fair
GOP - *gerrymanders even more*
DEMS - we mean it we’re gonna sue
SCOTUS - *legalizes gerrymandering completely*
DEMS - *start gerrymandering*
GOP - HEY STOP THAT NO FAIR!!!! 😭
every conservative political complaint comes back to "those people shouldn't count because they disagree with me"
The DOJ was created to increase the capacity for federal prosecutions during Reconstruction esp. those to be brought under the newly enacted KuKlux Klan Act.
Now the DOJ is being used to prosecute a storied civil rights organization whose central mission has been to expose & dismantle the Klan.
