I had a dream that I was still together with my ex and we did an escape room.

And while I definitely don't want to get back together with my ex, I do think it would be fun if we hung out and did an escape room.

Also I rather suspect the academic achievement gap - boys now trail girls substantially in the aggregate - has a lot to do with these sorts of attitudes pushing male teachers out of primary school education.

It is bad and false to tell boys and men that they aren't and cannot be nurturers.

Fun how they're leaning a little into the "the movie they didn't want you to see" bit

Did something happen?

In response to some bullshit going around:

Can we please fucking destigmatize men being nice to / caring about / engaging with kids? These are normal adult mammal instincts; what's fucked up is that we beat them out of people based on gender and/or assume they're inherently predatory.

“Move fast and break things” as an ethos was always going to run into “laws are a hinderance to xyz” and while people may cheekily call it ‘cyberpunk’ or such the reality is it’s nothing more than white collar criminality and should be prosecuted as such

I used to be able to tell my phone "navigate to Costco" and it would pull up directions. Now an AI voice tells me the address of the two nearest Costcos and advises me to use Waze or MapQuest to get there. If I open Google Maps and type Costco, I get an ad for Safeway.

I got 2000 indie kid as well, unsurprisingly.

She let out a deep sigh and explained that Lane was her married name, and she hadn't quite realized what she was getting into when she agreed to marry her husband.

Eventually I asked. I told her I also shared the name of a golden age comic book character (although one that wasn't quite as famous), and asked if her parents knew about Lois Lane when they named her.

So either an amazing coincidence, or her parents were some of the world's first superhero fans.

I didn't want to bother this poor customer, but the question ate at me.

Was it a coincidence, I wondered, or was she named that way on purpose. Lois Lane is a household name these days, but that wasn't always the case, and she was an elderly woman. Since she paid by check and had to show her ID, I realized I could just look at her date of birth.

She was born in 1938!

Okay, story about a real life Lois Lane:

Back in the day, I had regular customer named Lois Lane... 🧵

this race-bending the new musketeers thing is taking it way too far, next they'll be claiming Dumas was black or something

I made a coiled sword for my home bonfire and posted it in the dark souls reddit and got comments asking how people could commission one. I replied "sorry, I can't discuss that here, I'm not allowed to self promote" and got a permanent ban for "self promotion by admitting you take coms elsewhere"

Trying to explain St Augustine to the pope, the former head of the Augustinian order, who wrote his doctoral thesis on Augustine, on his way back from celebrating mass at the Basilica of St Augustine in Annaba, Algeria, overlooking the site where Augustine lived is peak Adult Catholic Convert.

Call me old-fashioned, but when I can't decide what I want to order I just ask the barista what their favorite drink is and try that one out.

You can just *talk* to people. People who work at the store are humans just like you. We shouldn't be using chatbots to empower extreme social anxiety.

Or is he threatening the possibility of Justice Ted Cruz to encourage Alito to stay on?

If that happens to me, I'm just going to convince the bot to let me stay an extra day for free, or let me take home the refrigerator or something.

If you ask Puerto Ricans: Statehood, yes or no, Yes wins. If you ask them to pick from a bunch of options including statehood, statehood wins. Yes, it's a narrow win, but I don't see that as reason to privilege an unpopular, untenable status quo.

That's a misleading characterization: Statehood won resoundingly in the last election, due to the boycott. If you include blank or spoiled ballots (i.e., the boycott vote), statehood still won, albeit more narrowly.

Hasn't statehood won every referendum they've had for the past 20+ years?

In fairness, maybe the pope really is soft on crime. The per capita rate of petty theft in Vatican City is off the charts.

Something like this will have to happen in this country once Trumpism is defeated. In the absence of accountability, the world will rightly assume that it will happen again.

Me, sowing an electoral system so I can get a constitution-amending supermajority on a smaller share of the vote: Haha fuck yeah!!! Yes!!

Me, reaping an electoral system where they can get a constitution-amending supermajority on a smaller share of the vote: Well this fucking sucks. What the fuck.
