The thing about studying finance from the perspective of econ is that, when done right, you're also studying econ history and the history of risk management. And the thing about the last half century is how much this has devolved to offloading as much risk as possible on to individuals & the public.

once you ignore minor and pesky things like distributional effects on who gets access to the highest productivity regions in the country, it's obvious that this is clearly an optimal price clearing policy and no interventions are required.

Ken Griffin employs thousands of people in NYC and is planning to build the tallest office tower on Park Ave., investing billions more and creating thousands more jobs. (For that reason, he’s also here in NYC a lot, @NYCMayor
)

Meantime Miami is welcoming him and his firm, with the massive jobs, investment and tax revenue he’s bringing.

Making him feel unwelcome and demonizing him seems risky. Ken left Chicago and moved Citadel hq to Miami a few years ago because of bad policy. (He also sold his penthouse there)

It's wildly inappropriate for someone who works as a *business journalist* to behave like a PR person on behalf of one of the very same people she and her network report on... It's one thing to comment on this 'tax the rich' plan as part of on-going news coverage, it's quite another to do this:

Why is Israel wasting all its own money building settlements instead of buying Iron Dome interceptors? It's a tragedy that Israeli civilians are killed by Hezbollah rockets, but why did the IDF put its Northern Command headquarters next to a shopping center and a school?

How is TJ Maxx not getting in on "looksmaxxing," riding it hard for a fiscal quarter of advertising campaign, then walking away with the satisfaction of having murdered the trend.

Today is the day where we'll get yet another opportunity to put US legislators and their words to the test. How many Democratic senators who are aiming for the White House in 2028 will vote correctly today?

YOU - By the way, I'm a fascist.

THE DESERTER - You're not. You're part of the meat shield surrounding the *real* fascists, while they rape children. That's what *you* are.

We thought we were living in a cyberpunk dystopia but this is actually straight from Warhammer 40K. The machine spirit must be appeased using the proper rituals. Blessings affixed with purity seals will keep the cogitator functioning.

a criminal conviction isn’t required to say someone does not have the moral character to run for office and i don’t understand why this needs to be said over and over and over again.

Way too soon to draw conclusions, but the fact that all of reports from today mention either Hormuz or nuclear weapons and not ballistic missiles or proxies suggests that status quo ante bellum is what we're aiming for, at best.

I think the number one, two, and three reasons for Israel's public relations crisis is that it's doing this to four separate countries simultaneously

It might be all the criminal charges against them that lawyers like me are STILL defending pro bono as they can't get housing or jobs or healthcare because everyone smeared them as terrorism supporters. Or maybe that the ones who do try protesting are immediately arrested too.

Might be that.

tweet from "@cigarettesummer": Whiskey and a notepad, cheaper than therapy and it actually works. [It's a picture of Donald Draper who, in the episode in question, kept his employee so late on her birthday that her boyfriend dumped her before drinking so much he pukes and then gets his ass kicked by a former colleague all while avoiding reaching out to talk to his closest friend on her last day alive.]

the fantasy that people will rise to the moment, the fantasy that people will change on their deathbeds, the fantasy that people secretly want to do good and are working on themselves when all evidence points otherwise, the fantasy that the state is anything other than this
