Looking for a #writingretreat? I’m holding one in June (14-20) and another in September (6-12). If holidays leave us with great memories, retreats do that AND enable leaps with our #writing projects ✍️, whether we’re multi-published or starting out. 💪 📚 #Booksky valeriavescina.com/teaching/wri...

Rooms Like Open Books This Week’s Bit of String: A broken magnet and psycho kitty paintings My last post ended on somewhat of a cliffhanger when our catsitter had to cancel. As with writing and other creative endeavours…

"Are there random places that stand out in your memory and may have inspired your creativity?" asks @nastasyaparker.bsky.social in this beautiful, reflective piece. I can totally see the 21-room house described in her blog post inspiring a story... nastasyaparker.com/current-even... #writinglife

What is an example of a non-fiction author elevator pitch?

I help businesses learn to (negotiate basic contracts) in my book, (Basic Business Contract Negotiations).

Not only will you (train your team to manage the basics), you'll learn to (know when to outsource to legal and why).

Feeling happy. Just been for a walk to clear my head. Springtime by the river is beautiful. Black locust tree in full bloom. Without consciously thinking about it, worked out a few tricky knots in my WIP.
What helps you when you're stuck with your writing?

Good morning, #WritingCommunity. I took this picture on an early morning lakeside walk last week. I had to tell myself a story that animals come play with the lost teddy, because otherwise the scene was a bit sad. Do you walk regularly to fuel your stories? #WritersLife

a5 #WomenWritersNet I imagine getting agents/publishers interested would be trickier as you have to find people who see the vision for both if it's not an established blended genre. #Romantasy is relatively recent, after all.

a6 #WomenWritersNet I was just thinking about Night Circus and The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern. I love the blend of romance, fantasy, and even mystery in her books.

A3 #WomenWritersNet Yes, I think is quite true. It's more intriguing when the story keeps you guessing what's next or excites you with its complexity. And life isn't so tidy, is it?

A3 #WomenWRitersNet YES! But even a bad dish/bad story teaches you a lot!

A3 #WomenWritersNet I think they're fascinating because you get so much more that 1 genre, no? I like reading #HistoricalRomance because it gives you insights into the lived experience of people in the past alongside the romance. If you like both genres, it's always a win.

A1 #WomenWritersNet It is! But I think there's a lot out there. For example, cozy mysteries are often include a romance that's as central to the story as the mystery.

6 days ago 1 0 0 0

Yes, because a fantasy story that has a bit of romance isn't quite the same. And romance that's merely set in the fantasy world but doesn't focus much on fantasy is mostly a romance.
