Bony Inner Ears Offer Clues to Lizard Evolution | AMNH Scientists hoping to reconstruct how extinct lizards and snakes lived have turned their attention to the inner ear.

🚨Science news! Recent research led by Meghan Forcellati, a comparative biology Ph.D. student in the Museum’s Richard Gilder Graduate School, has uncovered new clues about reptile evolution by studying the bony encasements of the inner ears of living lizards and snakes.

Revising this statement slightly after reading other takes: dinosaur folks *wildly* overestimate how much the general public already knows.

I think if your takeaway from the Netflix show is that audiences won't learn much, you're way deeper into fundamental dinosaur lore than 95% of people.

Happy #MosasaurMonday from Eustace, the holotype skull of Jormungandr walhallensis discovered in North Dakota by the NDGS.

We were tasked with taking this not-quite-complete skull (right) and digitally restoring it for display at the NDGS as well as a library just a few miles from the dig site πŸ§ͺ

Today's bombshell in @nature.com by Lindsay Zanno & James Napoli @jgn-paleo.bsky.social (bit.ly/4qBE6ng) shows that putative juvvy T. rex fossils actually are Nanotyrannus. I reviewed the manuscript, so Nature invited me to write the News & Views commentary. Free link: rdcu.be/eNv94 πŸ¦–

This digitally painted piece honors the survivor spirit of the coyote by tracing its lineage from the first cells of life to the animal trotting our landscapes today. Below the horizon, carefully chosen ancestors mark pivotal moments in adaptation, each contributing to the form and survivor we see today. Above the horizon, Coyote stands alert at the center, framed by both Denver’s skyline and a mountain backdrop, symbols of their ability to thrive in cities as well as wilderness. Embedded in the ground are the skulls and bones of carnivores whose lineages ended long ago, emphasizing Coyote’s persistence in contrast.

I was collecting #quail #embryos this morning and found an individual with albinism! Look at the lack of pigment in the retinal epithelium! Reminds me of finding a leopard #gecko embryo with the same condition during my PhD.

no offense, but when I am complaining about some aspect of the professional world sucking, please take a moment to think before commenting "well, I am in this field, and I did not share this experience". congratulations dear, happy for you, but I really don't know how to respond to that.

stylised Protosphyraena concepts, honestly quite happy with these and will probably make more with different taxa
