Just so you’re aware, every library in LA is offering free masks right now due to the fires. Another reason to love libraries! Let’s hope they continue after the fires are over. Masks save lives in many ways.

Do me a kindness! Share this if you love and support your local library & librarians (and remember: that includes your school library & school librarian) 😊📚

Thank you libraries & library workers… for everything ✨💚

By consciously choosing not to have books that may be considered contentious or inappropriate in their collections, libraries are removing patrons right to choose to read the book or not. 📚📜

If school librarians are given the chance, we teach this too. Unfortunately, we're not always given that opportunity.

REMINDER
not only do I do free virtual author visits for any school or library BUT

-if you DO have a guest budget you'd rather spend elsewhere I'll charge what you tell me to and donate it where it needs to go

-if there's a topic you aren't allowed to talk about I'LL bring it up and take the blame

I hereby declare by the power vested in me as a full-fledged librarian that any New Year's resolutions involving books are granted the power of flexibility to modify based on everchanging life circumstances.

I’m the kind of librarian who doesn’t care how many books you read this year, as long as you’re pro literacy and accessible library spaces for all and anti book banning and spreading misinformation.

If you don’t have a library card go get one. Even if you don’t plan on using it right away, go get one. Keep our libraries alive.

School libraries are a place of refuge. Students come to my library every day because it's their safe space. #SchoolLibrariesMatter

Libraries give us a lot more than just books; such as support programs, job help, tech resources, and even community outreach. They’re kind of a big deal.

Books open minds and hearts, and we need more of that.
Not censorship.
Not book bans.
Not fear.

Today marks a win for Arkansas librarians, booksellers, and readers in a decision that rebukes attempts to polarize communities and deprive Americans of bedrock freedoms.

It's Friday Fun Day in my library. I'm getting out the board games and makerspace stuff. High schoolers are still kids and need to play!

As we move into the holidays, please remember: READING FOR PLEASURE has the biggest impact of any factor on children's life chances. So never stop sharing books with kids, talking about books, making books central to everything you do. Never stop changing their lives! #literacy #EduSky #books

the quality and range of services public libraries provide relative to what they cost is nothing short of a miracle imo. But yeah, sure, “run government like a business.” 📚

Do not obey in advance. Most of the power of authoritarianism is freely given. In times like these, individuals think ahead about what a more repressive government will want, and then offer themselves without being asked. A citizen who adapts in this way is teaching power what it can do.

Library folk, in the face of censorship remember Timothy Snyder's advice in On Tyranny and *Do not obey in advance*
