Thanks for posting this. Shannon has a copy on the New Books shelf but I just ordered a copy through the bookstore for Special Collections. The bookstore will also be ordering a few copies to have in stock.
We see UVA's Ctr for Digital Editing's CFP (due 5/10) for editing+recovery practitioners on e.g. power of editions, archives, research collections to construct/contest/reframe intellectual/political revolutions; amplify voices historically marginalized+silenced; invisible labor. Congratulations! It’s definitely our loss.

If you live in the County, please do take some time to think about this & advocate for funding affordable housing. A one-cent increase would cost the median household $4 a month, but would go a long way to creating *reliable* public money available for affordable housing.
Screenshot of a portion of a parent's copy of a live birth certificate, reading "Dear Parents: Your child's birth certificate is one of the most important records he will have and use during his lifetime. It is to your advantage and his that it be correct in every way. Errors made now will be difficult to correct in later years."
Did you know that, without a court order, I can't get a certified copy of my own original birth certificate listing my name at birth?

I was just giving a tour to non-Special Collections library colleagues & those tiki torches brought back unpleasant memories. Before the cross got its current housing, it was visible to those working in the stacks & it both traumatized & fascinated a student worker who later became a history prof.
The Rise of Nontraditional Leaders in Academia HIGHER CALLING SCOTT C. BEARDSLEY ONE PERSON'S JOURNEY FROM MCKINSEY TO MONTICELLO
As a public service, I am reading Scott Beardsley’s book on higher education.
Just as Beardsley sacrificed a lucrative career at McKinsey to take a $700k a year job as Dean of Darden on his way to the very sketchy appointment as UVA president, I paid $12 for the kindle edition of “Higher Calling.”

A vertical graphic shows a photo of a man in glasses and a black t-shirt looking up to examine a small piece of parchment that he is holding raised between two fingers. Know your rights if stopped by police in D.C. * Ask: “Am I free to leave?” and “Am I under arrest?” * If police stop you, they might ask if they can search you. You do not have to give the officers permission to conduct a frisk or a search, though in some circumstances they can do so anyway. Telling police that you do not consent to a search is a good way to protect your rights to the greatest extent possible. * You do not have to answer questions that police ask you, except to give your name and address if asked in some situations. * If you are arrested, you should tell the police that you are invoking your right to remain silent (say so explicitly) and that you want to speak with a lawyer. From there, you should not answer any other questions, except your name and address if asked. * If you are detained by ICE or Border Patrol, you have the right to hire a lawyer, but the government does not have to provide one for you. Ask for a list of free or low-cost alternatives. * It can be dangerous for people to argue about police misconduct in the street, especially for Black and Brown people. Keep yourself safe and file a complaint later.
Some useful advice fromt he the ACLU.
A few folks have DM’d me abt the Frederick Douglass passage I excerpted at the rally. Here it is:
