This is why Unitary Executive Theory should be dunked on as academic theory. Practically, it depends on the President being a virtuous man. President Trump is craven. Theoretically, a civil system lessens the spoils because the bureaucrat is not subordinate to the will of one man.

I'm not joking when I say mRNA technology is more important than "AI" and it's a tragedy we're throwing billions into one while our government is aggressively defunding the other.
shouldn't be allowed to choose their own clerks, shouldn't be allowed to accept fees for speaking or prize money or awards. shouldn't be able to get book deals, etc. etc. if what you want is to be famous, well, no one is forcing you to be a supreme court justice.

We used to be ruled by much more competant alcoholics
Something to be said about politicians and pundits taking AI developers' apocalypse preaching more seriously than decades of very good climate science
Naming divorce as reason for this violence in this way seems too close to suggesting it’s *reasonable* for a man to do this amid divorce. Really seems the cops come to this with the presumption that it’s *understandable*
Insanity-making. I have mostly encountered scholarship on rape in women’s and gender studies syllabi and I wish they were getting lines and funds at this moment to study such things
There is a very common, if false belief that pretty much anyone can get citizenship if they're in the country for long enough. Unfortunately, most people who are undocumented have NO path to permanent legal status.
And in her case, the old removal order (which was withheld) makes it even harder.
Many, many brave people are fighting to stop this, and also—our collective failure to stop it from getting this far will haunt us for the rest of our lives.
I got off instagram in no small part because of these politics. And I felt the Instagram infographic politics were only online in 2020, but six years later they do actually change the terrain of meetings and it’s hell. Dare I ask What is the canva warrior mad at today?
Is this how bosses will learn they’re hated? When the Zuck bot is giving himself swirlies at the demand of subordinates?
even the most tenacious autocrats have a difficult time denying a landslide result against them

This is why you can't kill a civilisation by bombing it.
Armageddon is terrible, but our only other option was diversity trainings at work.
It’s how D Congress members live with the fact that Trump sent a mob to kill them. They mentally checked out.
So explicitly hiring "conservatives" under the guise of "ideological diversity" does not protect your university's finances. Big if true.
This is a sign of financial stress: Johns Hopkins University's business school is offering 50% off its MBA program for new Maryland college graduates as it tries to fill seats that were likely filled by international students in the past.

Honestly, the great crisis of our society is the unwillingness of institutions to inflict consequences.
Impeach the president, fire the sex pests, expel cheating students, excommunicate an unrepentant heretic, prosecute the war criminals.
Believe in your institution enough to enforce its rules.
Some reports say over 500 schools, 55 libraries, & 25 universities hit.
You can debate the numbers, but hitting Sharif University & Beheshti is like hitting MIT & Stanford. I keep wondering: How would the scientific community respond differently if it was those universities? What’s the difference?
Thanks for sharing this. Read Blacketts “Captives Quest for Freedom” in feb and it looks similar in topic, was also wonderful
🚨 Ever Alvarenga, an asylum seeker, was driving to work Thursday morning when he was rear-ended by an ICE vehicle. He is still in the hospital after suffering significant injuries to his head, chest, back, & hands.

Took my students to a nearby law clinic today to hear from a law prof. She told us they are worried bc they are seeing many people (esp low income) turn to AI for legal advice, represent themselves in civil cases, and lose. AI is leading to people losing their civil cases on family, housing, etc
I don’t know who the audience for this is. I guess it’s either really low income people who hate the rich (fair) or city hating contractors who make six figures and live to be triggered by the city living office job person. Meanwhile I make 50k and get a $30 burger once in a while because it’s nice
It is past time to do a power mapping of which consultants are advising which universities, and which Super Efficiency Optimizing Plans they're laying out as their Burger King menu of options
I’ve always hand marked student essays and handed them back, even if they were submitted over email. Now there is the added bonus that students can see that I deeply engage with their words (in blue books or essays), and know it’s not AI grading
The vast majority of Americans are birthright citizens. Unless you naturalized or were born abroad to an American parent, you are a citizen because of the 14th Amendment. There is nothing constitutionally distinct about Americans born here to non-Americans. We are all literally equal citizens.
