As someone whose entire academic career is advocating for the human rights of trans people, I would like to use my free speech to say that Bridget Phillipson has no idea how universities actually work, and that our duty to protect our students from harm - including speech harms - is paramount.

The astronauts should leave some Roman coins on the moon, just to really mess with future archaeologists.

The Caerwent-Caerleon double bill is a great day out! It's brilliant to be able to appreciate the contrast between the civilian town and the legion fortress.

For me it is the scale and level of preservation of the town walls, it's so rare in this country to be able to go to a Roman site and spend ages walking around it, looking up at the architecture. Usually we are looking down at a series of small walls!

I do love Bath (have not been to Vindolanda :( ) but the scale of Caerwent is something else! I do love a Roman site that I can look up at! In fairness Vindolanda has got Roman letters about underpants and socks, which is pretty great.

I'm looking for suggestions of museum/heritage education consultants for a small project, ideally south-west based. Any ideas or recommendations greatly received!

We have a new episode of Amplify Archaeology Podcast out today!

I was delighted to be joined by Dr Daniel Curley as we discussed the Uí Chellaig lords of Uí Maine and Tír Maine, and the landscapes of Medieval Gaelic Ireland.

Blogpost: I've often mentioned the local meetup I run in conversations on here and elsewhere. Now, after 3 years, here's an overview of how I did it and what we've been playing.

School book banning escalates in the UK as Greater Manchester secondary school censors scores of books - Index on Censorship A school librarian faced a disciplinary hearing and scores of books were removed from her school library after she stocked Laura Bates’ Men Who Hate Women

This is utterly jaw-dropping.

A school that bans Atwood, Zadie Smith, Terry effing Pratchett and *literal George Orwell* is actively harming its pupils.
