Here’s a short video showing what digital preservation involves. In this case, a file only works from a CD and can’t just be copied to our network—so we have to convert it into a playable format.

Our final keynote speakers for RBMS wrote the description for their talks and I got chills. I think the message of advocacy will be affirming and sustaining right when many of us need it.

"concern about being qualified... was not the main barrier to [non-Māori librarians' willingness to engage with Māori issues]... much of the time, the knowledge required was at the level of attempting a basic reference desk request or consulting an online dictionary."

Microfilm is so much more intuitive! But all will be well, this particular case is some preliminary inventory before moving on to other things.
Unrelated to this story, it has become increasingly more interesting that the random exemplar that came my way is a microfiche of an article from 1978 about "Recent Research in Artificial Intelligence."
I had to think about this statement for far longer than necessary before I got it.
Sitting in on a first meeting for an archives student and their potential supervisor for a project.
Supervisor says, "Much of the collection will be microfiche, do you know what that looks like?
"No," the students says.
Me: Oh! I have one in my desk drawer, look!"
