I've never really worked in ops (neither manufacturing nor BAU if that's what you mean) but I don't see why it'd be a problem - a lot of this stuff comes down to business transformation and whether the org buys into the process

usually you build consensus (not just feasibility/cost but desire) before you make the decision - and yes, leadership must hold people accountable - in my brief experience, that's the hard part because there's always new information whether it's actually new or people weren't paying attention

just my two cents obviously - every org and industry are different

ideally you have a person in the business who is system/data savvy and empowered by business leadership to own the decision making - this is what a Product Owner is for, right?

organizing is the relatively easy part imo - it's having an empowered and decisive shot caller that makes it cook

how many pitches (total and/or per pitch) does StuffPro/PitchPro need before you consider the results to be "real"? is it the same as when you introduced the metrics in 2024? Thanks!

@carlosacollazo.com q for Future Projection: JT Quinn's been melting batters with a ~40% K-BB and a ~35% whiff rate - however, he's doing this from a high arm slot and a shambolic 14 vert heater - how do you think he's doing this? it's an SEC guy in high-A, which itself might be the answer - thanks!

Dan this can't be real 14 vert with the low minors ball and a high arm slot is satanic

Talk me off the “Anthony Nunez is the new Cade Smith” ledge before I hurt myself from overexcitement. He has the great sweeper, changeup / splitter with excellent depth, and now the four-seam is 96-97 with 18-19 vert…

only Ryan McKenna and Robinson Chirinos can save us

yeah things like the b2b doubles yesterday, one oppo a couple yards fair, and the other pulled on the chalk - that stuff is probably noise in the context of the season

obviously the ""triple"" did not help, and as the season goes on, my biggest complaint is the FO deciding defense doesn't matter

Note the poor Loc+ for the 2026 sinker

Note the poor Loc+ for the 2026 sinker

LOB% is obviously part of his job, but in other years you'd see guys bite on the breaking balls in deep counts, and that's not going to happen if batters don't believe the sinker is coming in the right spot, much less the breakers themselves

Fwiw PitchPro concurs, I just can't get the sort right

Bradish in particular is getting blown up with runners on, but I couldn't begin to tell you why - I feel like it's related to his steady gas leak over the course of the start, and batters zeroing in on the heater and just wait for him to get behind throwing breakers out of the zone

@oysteranalytics.bsky.social do you guys have any peripheral data on Victor Figueroa? EV90, max EV, chase% (esp two-strike), z-con%, that kind of thing?

sigh, looks like his night is over - something going on with his finger, trainer and manager were out there for like 5 minutes talking it over

Chief Kief is up to 9 swinging punchies and 17 whiffs. 94-96, fastball/cutter/curveball

Kiefer Lord has gotten 6 swinging strikeouts through 2 frames except he's given up 2 runs through (T1st) a passed ball on a swinging strike 3, balk, deflected infield single, sac fly and (T2nd) a no man's land double, line drive single, and a strikeout & 1st-and-3rd steal

Usually you think of high xwOBA being damage in the air, but Blaze just has half a dozen Extremely Likely Singles

I noticed in 2025 the org shifted towards a lot more 70-80 pitch counts when in 2024 a lot of guys were more 50-60, but idk how the org chooses who pitches how much and it clearly varies

p good though: 3.2 IP 2 H 1 R/ER 0 BB 7 K 1 HBP 0 HRA 9 whiffs

I've seen Sebastian Gongora melt the first time through the order like 3 times, and he wasn't bad the second time through, but it seems like the org is dead set on closely managing his pitch count so we're not going to find out if he can actually navigate a lineup until he hits AAA or whatever
