Today I am 37! And it was a great birthday too. :-)

With the novel draft done, the goal is to do 2 short stories this month: a story set in the desert, and a story about kelpies. That'll be a nice contrast. :-)
Finished my current draft of my YA High Fantasy novel! All that's left is the polish and the supplemental material like the query letter; I'm going to let it sit for a few weeks and work on a couple of shorts, then swing back around to the book.
Project Hail Mary was absolutely fantastic. Definitely recommended.
Milestones: Over 600 copies of anthologies which contain at least one of my stories have sold! (And that's only counting anthologies in Pubshare; I'm in some others too). Very excited to have gotten this far!
2 more chapters done of the current draft of my YA high fantasy book. 15/22 chapters completed; only 7 to go!
Had a fun few days finishing up and sending out a couple of short fantasy stories, but now it's time to get back to the novel. I've completed 13 out of 22 chapters for this draft; aiming to wrap up the draft over the next couple weeks or so.
The Chain Story Project has released its latest tale: A Feast For Pan by James D. Mills.
Please enjoy, like and *especially* SHARE. (Shares make projects like this possible.) Thank you.

A long time ago--probably around 20 years back--I got a big omnibus of the 5 #HitchhikersGuide books, but I never got more than a short ways into it. Decided to change that and read the first book in the series this weekend. Enjoyed it! Looking forward to book 2.
This weekend I read "Alien: Prototype" by @timwaggoner.bsky.social , which I got from him at @superstarswriting.bsky.social . I enjoyed it! That was my first book in the #Alien expanded universe; I may well read more.
Had a story rejected today, alas. Bit bummed about that. So I figure I'll have a nice dinner and relax a bit, then get back to work on my next one.
Michael B Jordan proving he can win without Scottie B Pippen.
If you missed it, I released my sword and sorcery short story "Abhartach's Castle" as part of Mike Stackpole's "Chain Story" project! If you're looking for a story about witches traversing a desolate and dangerous land to fight evil, check it out!

This weekend I polished several of my existing shorts and sent them to their next markets, and also went over the proofs of my tannin story due out later this month. Now I've got 14 short stories on submission + 1 imminent publication. It feels good to have so many live stories out there.
Oreo pie is always a good choice, I say.
Happy Pi Day!

Tomorrow I will be releasing a new short story tie-in to my fantasy novel "The Witch of Knightcharm!" This is part of @michaelastackpole.bsky.social 's 'Chain Story' project which features Sword & Sorcery fiction from many great authors. The project is available here: www.chainstorycore.com
Turned in my short story submission to the Views from the Overlook anthology. Guessing a bunch of folks will be making submissions. This was a fun project to research and totally visited a spooky old hotel a few times to hear about their ghost stories.
Yep. I have both, but lately I've found I'm enjoying my physical books more. It's nice that I just own them and don't have to pay for never-ending subscriptions, as you say. And there's also something tactile about holding a book and physically going through it.
Got my story submitted to the "Views from the Overlook" anthology. That's four short stories for the year! Going to swing back around to the YA high fantasy novel I drafted last year--aiming to have that ready to pitch by mid-summer or thereabouts.
StoryCon was a lot of fun! It was great getting to teach people about freelance writing and game writing. And listening to the other talks and classes, especially Brandon Sanderson's, was incredible.
Picture of myself, with my name (Aaron Canton), labeled as a presenter at StoryCon.
As a reminder, I will be presenting two talks at StoryCon this coming Friday: one on freelance writing / work-for-hire projects, and one on game writing. I hope to see many of you there!
