I am once again saying that letting fascists back into society when they pretend to be repentant like this will lead to the rise of fascism again. They are upset because Trump has made them look like the fascists they are. This does not mean they are on the side of morality and human rights suddenly
The “Blood-Sin.”
People clearly felt that until they mobilized, they weren't being listened to, that their homes were treated like a dumping ground for big tech's project. That if a major project were to be built in their city, they wanted it to benefit the community, and no one had bothered to explain how it would.
As I listened to the countless public comments against the data center, I was struck by the robustness of the critique. It was not *just* NIMBYism, that the project would be noisy, polluting and use a lot of energy, but what all that was *in service of*: Big tech. The rich. An oligarchy.
Led by local groups No Data Center Monterey Park and San Gabriel Valley Progressive Action, residents mobilized, and rallied the city council to overturn the approval, pass a temporary moratorium, and spurred the asset manager to abandon the project.
That victory is captured nicely here:
ROFLMAO at the pearl clutching, sanctimonious, holier than thou, virtue signallers, whining and bleating and screaming about completely irrelevant nonsense. I don't care who owns Plaion or SNK. I only care about: build quality analogue output quality 100% accurate functionality and backwards compatibility will a flashcart work? Zero ***** given about anything else. I've got enough **** in my life to deal with without freaking out over who owns what. You dig deep enough, you'll find 100% of everything in your life tainted by something bad. The US and British empires both got rich off slavery centuries ago, and that money paid for infrastructure we use each day. You just gotta ignore it all and carry on without even thinking about it. I never think about it. I just hope these killjoys let the rest of us enjoy this games system in peace. And killjoy is the right word - they are literally killing the joy of everyone else. I'm buying one. And I will aggressively rebuke anyone who criticises those who buy it. I'm sick to death of virtuous tyrants finger wagging when anyone has some fun. Leave us the **** alone!
FYI here's his original thoughts on the issue before his comment was deleted by mods for being too inflammatory
the fact that Time Extension employs this man is one of the very large reasons why I do not accept them as a trustworthy source of video game news.
(the other would be their terminal gun-jumping about fan projects, but that's kind of secondary here)
From Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse Vol. 6: The Gleam Minnie lays flat out on the porch of her house, a pot in one hand. Goofy sees the scene and freaks out, throwing his letters into the air. Goofy: ...you don't... EEAWK!! MINNIE!!
... I'm sorry, but John Szczepaniak sounds like the folks who shout down trans people when we say "Hey you shouldn't buy Harry Potter shit because the creator's using their profits to eradicate trans folks"
Not buying a toy because the dude behind it is abhorrent is the lowest possible bar to clear
They're just little guys. You can look at them for free and you can look at them up close if you pay for Bird Premium (binoculars or camera). They're just doing behaviors. They will never email you.
something about being in my late 30s really has me sitting at the window watching the birds jumping in the little dishes of water i set out for them in the garden, i can’t get enough of this shit despite having no preexisting interest in the business of birds.
As of 2023, Sherlock Holmes is finally in the public domain in the United States -- which means that Arthur Conan Doyle's heirs and random other rights-holders can no longer insist that the character be free of any trace of homoeroticism.

Hello. I’m writing a novel. @editrixemma.bsky.social @alexbrownwrites.bsky.social
Praising JK Rowling when asked a question on trans rights is akin to praising Anita Bryant when asked a question gay rights. No money to Stonewall. No Stonewall at Pride. They are already experiencing a funding crisis, and this chairwoman appointment should be their last. Traitors.

Graph showing that 97.1% of respondents find it very important that a piece of writing is authored by a human; 2.5% think it's somewhat important, and 0.1% said it's not important.
0.1% of respondents say it doesn't matter to them if a work is human-authored.
ZERO-POINT-ONE.
6 out of over 4000 respondents. I'm cackling.
Heyyy, I got quoted in the write-up of results from an @ellipsus.com survey about what creative workers think of genAI.
Spoiler alert: Everyone hates it and places tremendous value on human creativity and in preserving spaces in which that creativity can flourish and be celebrated.

There's some talk about how Capcom are keeping the spirit of late PS2/Early PS3 game design alive with their recent releases.
If that's the vibe you're after, I HUGELY recommend Kunitsu-Gami, which sold very (comparatively) little and feels like a gorgeous modern remake of some obscure PS2 game.

My favorite trick I learned about was devs taking a screenshot of the game right when you hit pause, and then placing that screenshot behind the menu so they could do whatever they want behind it without the player knowing.
Tanner going through his usual mayhem on the streets of Miami, this time terrorizing a white picket fence suburban neighborhood, crashing into purple cars as the cardboard cutout people run around in a state of panic.
Tanner's motel room desk with a green rotary phone and some newspapers with a logo suspiciously similar to The Sun, but here called "The Duh", with a big photo of Tanner on the front page with the headline "THIS is the most dangerous man..." kinda implying that the writer was a bit disappointed.
Tanner having the entire Miami police force breathing down his neck in a highway chase as he manages to hit the only dirt mound in the city, sending him flying in a freeze frame and the narrator saying "Well, looks like the good ol' boys are at it again."
Tanner being tasked with smashing a few restaurants, taking it quite literally by driving through them, causing lots of triangles to fly off while two people are just sitting there at their table and continuing their conversation, showing just how common of an occurrence this seems to be these days.

A common occurrence in this game, a wide Miami road with two cop cars parked on the sides, leaving you just enough room for you to drive between them and act all cool for doing so.
Rushing through a cross section at the Transamerica Pyramid in San Francisco with a cop car just appearing out of nowhere from outside the screen and starting to chase you, showing an efficiency unparalleled in human history and proving that such things only happen in video games.
A car chase in the middle of the night in Los Angeles with Tanner doing a tight turn on the corner with only one headlight working and the chasing cop car not managing to keep up and toppling over behind him while the guy in the white pickup truck just stands there, thinking this is just another night in the City of Angels.
The New York cops however are pretty ruthless, managing to slam Tanner into a small alcove between two buildings, making it impossible to escape and just keeps ramming into him, ruining their own vehicle in the process.
