I used ChatGPT Canvas for the first time today to work together with GPT-4o on a document. It was a game changer. A technology wow moment that I haven't had for a while.

Microsoft has decided that 260 million PCs must be scrapped.
For Windows 11, Microsoft made the choice to make TPM 2.0 mandatory. This ensures that many otherwise perfectly good PCs cannot upgrade to Windows 11 and beyond.

If you can't upgrade and you fancy learning a new desktop environment you can always give Xubuntu a try. It runs smoother on less powerful devices and also has a live version so you can try it out without installing it.

No worries. If the laptop has 4GB of RAM it just meets the requirements for Ubuntu. If that's the case, see if you can find a cheap memory upgrade on eBay, and a cheapo SSD drive (if it has an old fashioned hard disk) and it'll feel much better.

Ubuntu is fine mate, but some people find the default desktop environment takes some getting used to if you're coming from Windows. You can always use a live image to test it out without installing it onto your computer. What are the specs for your old laptop?

Debian is pretty good. It's stable, so updates don't break it, and although some of the software is older you can install newer stuff via flatpak. It just gets out of the way and works with a minimum of fuss. That's what I want in an OS.

The farmers figure is 70k out of the total of 209k farm holdings in the UK. The Treasury figure is 500 farms *per year*. So 33% of farms are impacted at Β£1m, but this will be reduced as a couple has an allowance of Β£3m.

Thanks Chris. It seems to be picking up. My feed here certainly appears much more civilised than the other place.
