@afizgig.bsky.social put me on to this one, and I was not disappointed. It's glorious!
Ooof. Never seen a film drop off a cliff at the half-way point so spectacularly as this!

Four Flies on Grey Velvet (1971)
Dir: Dario Argento
A drummer kills a stalker and gets pulled into a blackmail spiral as bodies pile up and paranoia gets dialed to 11. Argento augments his usual slick kills with surreal clues, and a finale thatβs pure giallo insanity. πͺ

Empire Pictures for the win! You could probably segway into an entire series on them! Some absolute bangers in there.
The 3rd poster in your post is one of my all-time favourite movie posters. It is everything you want from an 80s movie poster, from the lettering style to the blocking. Absolute perfection to match an absolutely perfect film.

A blind puzzle-master and a stubborn reporter team up to solve a murder mystery they absolutely shouldβve left alone, unleashing blackmail, break-ins, and Argentoβs favourite hobby: slickly filmed stabby stabby. π§©πͺ

Ah, very nice! Congratulations. We're looking forward to the 4k!
100%! We were from the greatest era!
Every time someone mentions Bourbon biscuits, I am immediately reminded of this Alexi Sayle skit from The Young Ones. It is burned into my brain!

It definitely overindulges to excess. What a wonderful description! π€£

The Bird with the Crystal Plumage (1970)
Dario Argento masters giallo on his first outing turning a botched attack into a stylish spiral of paranoia, black gloves, and razor-sharp set pieces, as the witness stumbles through Rome trying to solve a murder he almost saw.

Fear City (1984) π½π¬
Dir. Abel Ferrera
A neon-soaked New York where a killer is targeting strippers, ex-boxers are running out of second chances, and everyone looks like they havenβt slept since 1977. Itβs sleazy, sweaty, and powered by pure bad decisions. π½π₯

Just be prepared for lots of psychadelic prog music while people walk around π
Oh my! You're in for a real wtf treat!
One of my all-time favourite films. The score is amazing, and the effects still hold up to this day. I did like Pal's adaptation of WotW, but I think this is the superior Wells film. Great to see you giving it some love here!
One of the greatest Hammer finales!

The Lost Empire (1984) π½π¬
Neon nonsense and ancient evil combine as three martial arts cops take on an immortal sorceress who runs a brothel full of kung-fu assassins. God bless the 1980s.

What a legend!
All those AI accounts eating up the bandwidth
I wish he had the time & budget to do the same on Dawn
Such a shame.
I just generally like miserable songs π€£ But, ok, since you so kindly explained: Gunship: When You Grow Up Your Heart Dies. Unfortunately, it makes me sad these days, though π€£
When that bloke's larynx gets stretched by his head being pulled off while he screams π±
Wait... there are songs that cheer you up?

Dreamscape (1984)
Inception, by way of the β80s, in which a psychic slacker gets hired to enter peopleβs dreams for science, but ends up battling a literal nightmare monster and a shady government scheme, all while trying not to get lost in his own subconscious.

Pure nostalgia, right?
