Thought Chris Finch did an excellent job managing minutes + lineups down the stretch of the game.
Appreciated him trusting Bones and Ayo at the start of the 4Q after some highs and lows before that.
Going to be a fun one for tonight's Wolves Postcast breaking down anarchy in Denver w/ Luke Inman:
- Incredible D in 4Q
- Adjustments from G1
- Elements of a 19PT comeback
- Ant looking better
- and more!

Never say die.
One hell of a response from Anthony Edwards, Julius Randle, Rudy Gobert and Co.
Unbelievable effort on the defensive end in the 4Q from the Wolves, holding Murray and Jokic to 4 points on 2-12 FG.
Is this the NBA Playoffs or November, Tony Brothers?
If you're not in front of the tv in a defensive stance idk what to tell you
Donte DiVincenzo has made so many huge plays in this series coming up with loose balls
Jaden McDaniels now 0-7 from 3 in this series
Perfect time for a classic Naz Reid opening stanza of the 4Q
This Jokic stuff is so soft.
He's 300 pounds, but refs don't let you get physical with him while he elbows you, shoulders you, throws all his weight at you.
I have no issue with how physical Jokic is. He should use his physical gifts.
Just let defenders do the same.
Mentioned this on the Wolves Postcast after Game 1
Wanted Finch playing Slow-Mo with Bones/Naz more. Why?
Slow-Mo does a better job than anyone seeking out Bones and setting him up as a shooter.
All 3 of Bones' triples tonight have come with Slow-Mo out there
Anthony Edwards' rim protection and rebounding has been teach tape level good for a guard. My goodness.
Giving everything he's got
Prepping for a 20-minute live show immediately after a game like this is impossible but that's the beauty of incredible playoff hoops
I think too much will be made of Rudy sitting being what sparked the Wolves' offense.
None of moving the ball from side-to-side, driving, dropping it in the pocket or up top for a lob, kicking opposite, making extra passes are mutually exclusive with Rudy playing
Scoring
• MIN → Ant (20), Randle (18) score 38 of the 64, no one else more than 6. Bench w/ 16
• DEN → Murray (23), THJ (14) score 37 of the 64, no one else more than 7. Bench w/ 15
Wild first half
DEN had a 21-2 run, MIN had a 39-12 run
3PT shooting
• MIN → 11-22 (50%)
• DEN → 10-20 (50%)
Playmaking
• MIN → 19 AST on 22 FGM, 5 TOV
• DEN → 18 AST on 22 FGM, 5 TOV
1/2
Timberwolves playmaking by quarter
1Q --> 7 AST ON 8 FGM (but 8/24 FG), 3 TOV
2Q -->12 AST on 14 FGM (14/20 FG!), 2 TOV
Huge change in the volume of passes, how often the ball reached the second side, number of players to touch the ball.
Swinging it produces points.
Julius Randle swinging the rock and doing everything he can to make it tough on Nikola Jokić
The role they need him to play isn't crazy. He's played it beautifully tonight
Getting some Randle-at-the-5 minutes here in the 2Q w/ Gobert in foul trouble.
Staples of those (albeit limited) 267 RS possessions?
- Sky-high FT rate (0.323)
- Low TO rate (12.7%) on offense
- High opp. TO rate (16.9%) on defense
Struggled overall on both ends, though
Three fouls for Rudy Gobert in the first 3 minutes of the second quarter.
Now not going to be out there when Jokic returns.
Needed Rudy to be smarter with 2 fouls
More pep in the step for the Wolves.
Everybody playing hard. The most important ingredient for a comeback.
Clearly some urgency in the way they are attacking the rim offensively. Gotta keep at it
Mentioned this in Game 1, will do it again.
Really disagree with Rudy being out there in these non-Jokic minutes with Murray at the controls.
Finch did put Jaden in to start 2Q (good adjustment!) to guard Murray, but Murray just DESTROYS drop
Denver's playmaking was superb in the opening quarter.
11 AST on 12 FGM
Found cutters, swung it around the perimeter, ensured everyone got a touch, really pushed pace off misses.
Making the Minnesota defense work in a way the Wolves aren't doing to the Nuggets' defense.
Just low IQ play after low IQ play after low IQ play
Timberwolves defense off the ball was bad in Game 1
It has been abhorrently bad in Game 2. Three 4-point plays allowed in 9 minutes. Wide open layups, too.
Maybe Chris Finch should've focused his energy there instead of on the officiating.
If this is all the Wolves can get from Anthony Edwards they've got no shot.
Such an unfortunate injury after everything he did carrying the Timberwolves all season long
Heck of a response from Julius Randle to start this one. Much better attack mindset and production to follow in the first 4 minutes.
2/2 from 3 is enormous in breaking how the Nuggets want to defend Anthony Edwards
Live now ⤵️
Going live with Luke Inman to breakdown the Wolves' Game 1 loss in Denver once it goes final:
- Ant's health
- Very tough Randle/Naz/Bones games
- Second guessing 2Q
- Unraveling in 3Q
- What changed in 4Q?

Randle just expecting Murray to make it so he doesn't even try and get a body on Jokić, who tips it in
It is the NBA Playoffs not November
