Randle just expecting Murray to make it so he doesn't even try and get a body on Jokić, who tips it in
It is the NBA Playoffs not November
Timberwolves finally working the ball around to create driving lanes and attack the Nuggets complete lack of rim protection
Better late than never. Something they need to do all series long
Both of these teams do so many inexplicably stupid things that it feels like all of these games are destined to be close in the fourth quarter
Gotta respect Donte for not giving up on the play while his teammates walk back up the floor
Contagious effort and energy
Wish his teammates played with even 75% of his effort at all times
Going to be a very interesting final 18 minutes with regard to how Chris Finch handles Julius Randle's minutes
Can't waste a Donte magnet ball game
Anthony Edwards holding the ball and not effectively getting his teammates involved has been a problem for weeks and is rearing its head again this afternoon.
Taking way too long to make his reads and doesn't appear to be serious about (and maybe can't) driving the ball
Anthony Edwards guarding Jamal Murray to start the second half.
Paint points
MIN → 28 PTS on 14-20 FG
DEN → 10 PTS on 5-11 FG
Wolves did a great job limiting the Nuggets inside the arc. Gotta keep Denver off the foul line (19-21 in 1H), though... easier said than done.
Minnesota needs to keep getting downhill and play from there.
Really enjoyed the Wolves trying to get Jaden McDaniels involved in the middle of the floor late in the 1H
Would like to see more of that. No reason he can't continue to score efficiently inside the arc given who's guarding him.
Team-high 12 for the Wolves in the first half
Right on cue, an ATO to isolate Randle on Jones and an easy bucket
More of that, please
If the Wolves are not going to run it through Julius Randle with Aaron Gordon off the floor, I am not sure what his value is playing off the ball
16-10 Nuggets in the first edition of the non-Jokić minutes
Really disagree with leaving Rudy out there in those minutes, playing drop, and letting Murray catch a rhythm.
Much rather would've seen Wolves go small, blitz or switch, and make it tough.
Nuggets back in control.
Denver is #1 in the NBA in AST/TO ratio at 2.25
Minnesota has forced 6 turnovers for 8 points the other way, holding the Nuggets to just 6 assists
Good defensive effort in the first 12 for the Wolves
No challenges for the final 3 quarters for the Nuggets
3 fouls on Aaron Gordon in the opening frame
Chris Finch rolling with a 10-man rotation w/ Naz, Ayo, Bones, Slow-Mo, Mike off the pine
Excellent
Love how he's managed things thus far
Rudy Gobert has done a remarkable job defending Nikola Jokić early
Timely pokeaways, using his hands without fouling, bodying up while showing hands, contesting without fouling
Doing everything he can
Gotta be pleased with the Wolves start.
- Jaden and Donte score 16 of the first 21
- 0 turnovers
- Weathered some tough calls emotionally
- Ant scoreless first 5:32
- Murray/Jokić only 1 FGA, 3 PTS in first 5:30
Up 21-12 in Denver early
The fact that the Wolves even have to burn a challenge on a play like that is a huge bummer
Anthony Edwards' off-ball defense on Cam Johnson has been awful thus far. Losing him on nearly every trip
Nuggets are in the bonus for the final 9:15 of the first quarter
Thankfully for the Wolves no one has more than 1 foul
Great to see Jaden McDaniels get to work below the 3PT arc, where he's done most of his damage against the Nuggets this season:
2PT shooting this year vs DEN
Game #1 → 9/13
Game #2 → 6/12
Game #3 → 8/9
Game #4 → 9/9
Already up to 4 points. His scoring is so vital
