I’m going to the Phillies game tomorrow and I would skip it but one of my best friends is visiting from dc and going to the game too. So might have to leave after the 4th inning and watch somewhere in center city

Switched back to the straight bar for my light squat and my bicep feels completely normal. Slightly wider grip helped I think

Unfortunately after a month of using this thing, my left bicep no longer hurts after I squat

These two highlights perfectly summarize what is so fucked with MAHA. First statement, unobjectionable, I say this all the time. Instead of following it with the evidence-based 6 pillars of lifestyle medicine, it is beef tallow, no seed oils, food dyes, shit that is bad or doesn’t matter. No beans

Mamdani Ends NYPD's Criminal Crackdown on Cyclists, E-Bike Riders Mayor Zohran Mamdani finally makes good on his campaign promise to end the punitive criminal crackdown on cycling in NYC.

the protein-added everything craze really gives the lie to the ostensible concern with ultra-processing since anything with a protein isolate added is a UPF. which is funny because the UPF part doesn't really matter but you probably don't need the extra protein in the first place.

I split two boards, then sawed out a bunch of legs that survived a hard sledgehammer hit before and after tenoning. It was very tough to split, but you can argue with the price or strength. Each red oak leg probably costs 5-6x as much

Wow had no idea! I got it from an outdoor but covered building supply place. Kiln dried but feels very wet and heavy. I’ll check the MC later, but I’m gonna wait weeks or months before using it for that reason. Will cross cut it to rough lengths after 1-2 weeks so it dries faster

One more question… I’m getting some yellow pine to build a sharpening bench with the same construction as your drill press stand. Have you had any issues with the cross grain between the top and the legs? I realized I might want to put the end grain facing front instead of the sides?

Every time I watch one of his project I learn something unique, even in that little workbench tray he just posted! How would you handle getting accurate ends on wide pieces like ~13” wide Dutch tool chest sides, or an 18” wide case? I usually only hear shooting board or table saw

Using it with the plane right on the benchtop? I got the fancy Veritas one, but you can’t argue with the simplicity and cleverness of Richard’s version, as is often the case. So glad he’s back to posting new videos

Polling comes out every year that shows 50% of Americans want to live in dense walkable neighborhoods, but 90% of all homes are in car sprawl.

We need to build not 5% more, not 50% more, but 500% more housing in walkable neighborhoods than we currently have just to meet demand.

SAD UPDATE: I could have sworn that National Zoo extended trail bypass hours to 7pm after all the obvious blowback about how literally no one who works normal hours can commute home when they shut it down at 5pm, am I missing something 😫!?

Tippett had a few nice plays. Barkey had some good forechecks. Stunning difference compared to Michkov who doesn’t put any pressure on when he’s the F1

This is the problem with viewing energy through a capitalist-blind framework, without understanding the history of energy. In a growth economy, increases in any type of energy goes to more growth and increasing profit, not reducing GHG emissions

Scientific American has updated the figure, now grouped into swimmers, fliers, walkers/runners, and vehicles. A person on a bicycle remains the most efficient way to travel, compared to all forms of biological locomotion and mechanical transport.

I’ve seen you say that before, but why is that the case? Maybe those roads should be turned into grassy trams
