This sketch I randomly found made me realize that actually yeah, Aepycamelus would have had the same general high browser niche that some ground sloths filled. Completely different answers to the same problem.

And yes, I'm aware of the whole there aren't any known living heirs thing from the show.
Just because there aren't any DIRECT descendants around doesn't mean the other Viltrumites aren't still related to him.
They wouldn't have a claim to the throne since they aren't genetically Argyle enough.

I wouldn't be shocked if every Viltrumite could trace their lineage back to Argyle.
Like Genghis Khan he fucked so much that practically everyone within 5 miles is related to him in one way or another.
Also, bear in mind, that they live for thousands of years.
So, yeah.
