British Library staff asked for a decent pay. Instead they got ‘a few money-saving present ideas’, such as ‘consider not giving presents this holiday season’. They are on strike this week. I wrote about it for @lrb.co.uk. www.lrb.co.uk/blog/2025/de...
i wrote a short story for chlorophyll mag called Parasite on loneliness, hunger, and monstrosity and i think you should all read it!

hi i'm doing xmas prints so i can make some money this december - it has been tough with writing, so here's some art from me! choose from four A4 prints (or get them all) of wobbly jelly, a solitary bag of sugar, a hand claw holding orange wine, and a lush swiss roll

before i take some time off, a missive on why you should become a paid subscriber to my newsletter, shelf offering. one perk i forgot to add was that this automatically gets you into the workshops, talks, and discussions at FFF. plus a zine that's incoming EOY
me too!!
if you’re in london, i urge you to go to the Wayne Thiebaud exhibition at The Courtauld Gallery from this Friday onwards. this is the first ever museum show of his work in the UK and ahead of that, i’m resharing my essay on his artwork and life via sugar and solitariness. read, enjoy, go!
looking forward to this being my bedtime reading tonight!
🫂
thank you!
thanks Chris, am really grateful for your presence 🫂
obv losing my mind and will
im not going to stop writing because that will make me equally, if not more, unhappy. the 5 people who read me have been with me since the start and im grateful for their presence. my question is about the current state of the media ecosystem as an individual writer existing among other indv writers
i approach every topic i write about with the same intent and seriousness and then i see half-baked takes and mediocre writing churning so much praise and money. what is the point of writing anymore? do i have to talk about every essay i write on tiktok/instagram to see any response whatsoever?
or simply accept my fate and die penniless? im tired of writing well thought out essays that get opened by 5 people while equally hearing "oh you're such a good writer" by people/peers who don't care about what i actually write let alone pay for it. i simply dont know what to do moving forward
5 years of independent newsletter writing and it's becoming more and more difficult to continue in a self-sustaining way unless i have some sort of following that will pay for any kind of shit i write. unfortunately i dont possess the personality of a cult leader. should i bemoan my lack of guile?

for @vittles.bsky.social, i wrote on the joys of lentils via two recipes for making sundal, which is a dish that dares to be categorised into one thing but is actually many things – think beyond dal! this is my urging to you
i wrote about memento mori, weird art – an apron made out of fish, blocks of frozen fruits, Victorian hair tokens – and the beauty in bizarre things. please read and repost! (yes it's on substack)
