Actually insane how bad Lee Cronin’s The Mummy is. Like reaching into a grab bag of terrible horror clichés (torture porn, exorcism fetishization, needless incest references for shock, terrible TERRIBLE acting, every split diopter shot on the lot, about 80 random children) and mixing with meanness

The Testament of Ann Lee is a beguiling and bold tragedy with a transcendent performance by Amanda Seyfried The Testament of Ann Lee (or, if you’re looking for a longer, more tragically self-mythologizing mouthful of a title, The Woman Clothed By The Sun, With The Moon Beneath Her

Not to get too into awards analysis because the art itself will always matter independent of it, but the tragic overlooking of THE TESTAMENT OF ANN LEE & Seyfried for any Oscar noms will be remembered as one of those "wow, they really missed the boat on this one." 📽️

The Plague, Bone Temple and Ann Lee are some of the best movies I’ve seen in years. Honestly an amazing time to be a bleakcore enjoyer

As a pitch, I think this movie would be incredibly appetizing. Topical, jumps on the elevated horror bandwagon, and genuinely offers a good metaphor/critique for the pursuit for greatness/acclaim at all costs.

The execution though was just abysmal. Style over substance and even the style is bad

Both times I’ve interviewed him I was struck by his kindness, & obvious genuine passion he has for storytelling. For Seven Veils I mentioned the similarity between a scene & Beckett’s Not I, & he was so ecstatic someone picked up on it he wanted to start a whole new conversation to the chagrin of PR

Turned what is usually a 30 minute trip downtown into a 2 hour alternating hell of gridlocked shuttle busses, packed and panicky subway stations and literally sprinting down the street in -10 weather

My main take was I fundamentally don’t understand or believe the majority of people being indifferent, or even happy about the eventuality of having their individuality stripped by an unknowable, murderous cosmic force. And everyone said I was crazy for thinking that!

I don’t like the growing trend of excusable dishonesty. He said “here’s the thing that no reports have ever said about this.” Thats just not a true thing. More than excusing errors, there’s this growing idea that lying for attention is an expectation & actually good & getting upset about it is bad
