I learned so much from this seminar. Above all, that power dynamics in BDSM and kink are never simple: that kink creates opportunities for playing *with* power, which cannot be captured in the imagined binary of "reification vs. transgression." A kinky analytic is a great way to think about power.

The stakes of teaching and learning this history are real. Britain is at this moment considering outlawing BDSM pornographic imagery (strangulation) on the specious argument that "violent pornography" leads to murder and abuse of women and girls. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...
