Canโ€™t tell you how much I respect Apple for promoting a guy who basically worked his ass off and didnโ€™t decide to become a personal brand.

The through line here is that as Americans, many Californians like low density. They don't want to increase density in urban areas and don't have an issue with building in wildfire zones as long as it's low density

I know Trump hates drunks (due to his brother), but that also makes me wonder why he put two of them in top security roles (Patel and Hegseth)

To be honest I donโ€™t think this is true either. I think the actual social disruption of COVID came from something more disturbing.

I think a lot of people kind of liked it.

Not having to go outside, not having to do anything, getting paid the superdole. It increased our appetite for isolation.

My favorite part of the Threads algorithm right now is being served up "good tsar, bad boyar" posts about Buster Posey running the Giants

once you get past the people really thriving at the top, the American economy is a story of people refusing to substitute and becoming furious about it

Yeah but FIFA is holding the World Cup in the US because they want the rich, let's pay money for big events crowd.

They actually think they're getting to host 104 Super Bowls

Similarly, sports/concert tickets are expensive because there's a lot of rich people in this country who will pay lots of money for them.

Warriors playoff tickets are really expensive because it's not that hard to find 18,000 rich people in the Bay Area to pay that much for a game

the fast food industry realized that six figure earning white collar workers really like their product and started charging accordingly.

this process has repeated throughout the economy and now people are mad

We don't hear that much these days about how Chipotle is inauthentic trash and you should go to a real taqueria instead.

Nope, we just whine about how they took away our consumer surplus for precious fast casual burrito

My hot take is that fast food got expensive because we made it clear how much we love it and created the permission structure for it to be priced accordingly

i can only assume the answer is that "planners and developers/lenders are biased towards midrise development".

Or did nobody think that Mission Bay could ever be "that kind of neighborhood" like Rincon Hill/Transbay/East Cut?

we spent years screaming at *our* teenagers to close their legs. the other teenagers should be procreating to keep birth rates high, and if they're black or brown it's even better because then we can make fun of them for being promiscuous sluts

I know that our air conditioners in summer are still gas powered, but itโ€™s amazing how far CA has come with solar/wind/batteries. We basically donโ€™t need gas for baseline electricity anymore

The combination of plug-in solar and battery storage (and relatedly, cheap e-bikes and mopeds) is going to be unbelievably revolutionary in the Global South.

Just a complete return to 19th century imperialism. Leaders planning this need to be shown the door and face justice for these crimes against humanity. This is literally the charge we used in Nuremberg. Wars of Aggression.

There's a lot of people in this world whose finances depend on the excesses of Gulf money, and aren't going to be happy when the oil spigot turns off for a long time

If the NFL takes SNF away from NBC it's out of pure spite that they agreed to pay the NBA more per year.

It's no different than the NBA spurning Turner because Zaslav said he didn't need the NBA

i get the use case for towing, but also fear that "the industry needs to make EREVs for towing" turns into "I need to buy an EREV instead of an EV in case I need to tow the boat or RV that I actually don't even yet own", similar to what convinces consumers to buy big ass trucks in the first place

It's good that the WNBA now pays their players like professionals

also I'm starting to think that contra-Alex Karp, the gender effects of AI aren't going to work out the way his ilk think it will if you're going to need good communications and project management skills to administer these agents
